I'm actually planning on attending the con this year for the first time. Do I have to be a member to attend? If so, I'm going with a few of my friends, do they all have to be members? I'm really not sure what I'm doing. Lol.

I am a club member and I use it to preorder when I have the money. BBTS and EE make you pay when they get the stuff in stock, and I don't always have the case when they get it in. I'd rather pay when I can and just wait to get it. I've found that stuff is more readily available and doesn't sell out in preorder as fast or at all. I also find stuff cheaper at times.
I agree that at times it doesn't feel like much of a "community", but really with so little official news, it doesn't make much sense to talk on their boards as opposed to here or any other sites. I wish there was better communication and that the site was better maintained/updated, but whatever. Hotel info is posted, registration will be available in April and exclusives will probably be announced around then. |

I liked being a member, but I let my membership slide this year. I just didn't think the newsletter/magazine and figure were worth the price anymore. I do wish I could trade last year's Cobra Commander for this year's figure, but what can you do?

I do believe that the set will be the Red Shadows with Baron Ironblood, The Black Major, Red Vulture, Red Laser, Red Wolf, Red Jackel, Kracken, Skeletron, Muton, and 6 Red Shadow figures based on the hints that are provided.

And before you ask, Lanny is the reason I don't frequent those message boards. Yeah, Lanny may work his ass off for the club, but it doesn't excuse his treatment of me, and a few other members, a year or so ago. You may say he's a nice guy, but a few private messages I got from him were NOT nice. His actions were not acceptable for club administration. All I did was bring up a few things the club could improve on. I wasn't mean or nasty about it. Plain and simple, Lanny is nice to you if you don't complain, but the instant a complaint is voiced, then you're the bad guy on the forums, even if the complaint is valid. |

You see, that's the problem right freaking there! Not all the members go to the discussion boards! I'm a trooper level member right now, and this is the first I've heard of the form being in the April newsletter. Why couldn't they send out a mass email with that info? They find the time to send out mass emails when they have new stuff for sale, but they can't be bothered sending out a crucial bit of info like this?

Well I was a club member for the very first set of crimson vipers, even got the error fushia vipers too. So i do think they have produced some pretty neat stuff, but after that viper set, with the exception of the repainted vehicles that they have made, most of the other figure sets have been a disappointment.
I'm actually excited this year for the convention because I live in KC and since its being held here, I do plan to finally attend it. Not that it wouldn't have been cool in past years, just don't have the $ to travel all over the country. At first it was announced that info would be available in feb. Then they updated the site a few days ago to say april. So I'm more interested in registering, and figuring out the costs that will be associated with just getting in the door. As for the exclusives, they'd have to be 25th anniversary style figures to get me super stoked. Or be super awesome RAH, which hasn't happened since the vipers. So my only question on the exclusives is the format? Also was that piper figure handed out at a Joe convention? or regular toy convention? Hope theres a big turn out of dealers, i just really want to shop and buy hard to find stuff from my childhood.

The Rowdy Roddy Piper figure was an exclusive to the 2007 G.I. Joe con in Atlanta. I still regret not picking up more than 1 of those.

The releasing of the pictures / themes of the sets has actually been consistent every year. We went back and looked at when things were released. It might have been a 2 weeks difference or so, but it's always been consistent. This year obviously the exception as the con is later than normal.
The Club is a decent place I guess, they do make lots of bad decisions though (DTC wave 4, Those awesome Maulers that were totally out before Thanksgiving) and it's not like they always take the blame for it. In fact it's your fault there wasn't M.O.T.H. set five, because you didn't buy enough of the sets even though they WERE NOT army builders.
