I accidentally voted no, but meant to vote yes (my mind told me "Hell Yes!" when I first glanced at it). I love the original, and though the whole point of resolute is being more "adult," if it were somehow like the old show, I wouldn't mind.

I'd be heartbroken if they dumbed down Resolute. I understand the need to get kids back into GI Joe and I support that, if our favorite toy line (mine anyway) is going to continue and have any hope at being on par with Star Wars and Transformers than getting the kids involved is vital. That being said I think there's plenty of room to satisfy the kids and keep the adults happy with what was originally planned/promised with Resolute.

At this point I would accept a bunch of inbred hillbillies running around their front yard in fatigues shooting at each other.

Would I be mad if it were as said, "became little more than Sigma 6 in RAH inspired uniforms?"...well, no. Sigma 6 held my interest for the extent of it's live.

i'm not voting voting because i think it's a flawed choice (like the last poll honestly...)
"accept" isn't the right word. "prefer" yes. but dumbing something down and making something "kid-friendly" are two different things... a well-written story doesn't need to be all blood-and-guts. though i have to admit that the idea of making an internet-only cartoon kid-friendly screams a marketing dept. that uses AOL or something. i mean come on, it's the bloody internet! but i do seem to remember all the complaints from "fans" before the first Hellboy movie came out with claims that anything besides an R-rated Hellboy film wouldn't be "true-to-the-books" even though as a "fan" i hardly found the books "mature audience". sure, there were vampires and witches and a chimp with a machines gun and a giant human fat monster and Hellboy was always getting the crap beat out of hisself and bleeding everywhere and that hottie the baba yagga went around topless a lot (as did other fairer demons admittedly), but those are some of the most fun-loving books ever written (although lately things are pretty grim...). but mostly what they were was well-written and drawn. i suppose a more relevant comparison would be Beast Wars. while G1 is iconic as hell, those stories were admittedly gawd-awful (well maybe except for the real movie) and despite the idiotic fan claims that "Optimus Prime was never a monkey" (correct, because he was still in stasis on the Ark and Optimus Primal was actually an ape) Beast Wars had some of the best written episodes in cartoondom. anyone who doesn't cry at the end of "Code of Hero" is a heartless drone. but back to resolute, honestly i find a lot of ellis' work hit or miss but IMO, as long as Hama isn't writing it then it's got a damn good chance of not sucking.... |

Sure a good story can be written that plays to both adults and kids. However, this was pushed as a more adult oriented cartoon. Besides, kids have enough garbage pushed their way.

EDIT: though i just did finish pyramid of darkness and while it probably has the worst story of the 5-parters it was all about the lovin' wasn't it? Destro & Baroness, steamy! Lady Jaye getting all blushy in the bubble. Shipwreck putting the moves on Satin. Alpine & Bazooka... Last edited by kingsurlycrab; 03-10-2009 at 12:49 AM.. |

Is this just conjecture on the poll originator's part, or has there actually been some news/rumors that Resolute is being retooled younger? I ask because this is the first I heard of it being dumbed down.

I believe a kinder gentler "dumbed down" version of Joe already was made and it was Sigma 6. This cartoon was aimed at the kids. They when for the half Japanamation/Disneyish style characters which I believe was a marketing decision on Hasblo's part.
Since that went belly up, Hasblo is taking another marketing risk by producing this hopefully hardened version of Joe with is catering to us older fans who desire so much more out of the pantheon of Joeverse than what Hasblo has been previously willing to give us. I hope this works out for Hasblo for our sakes so we will be enjoying years of future Resolute goodness!

Yes. Chances are good I'm not going to get to watch much at my house that isnt age appropriate for my son anyway. No need to "dumb it down". Just go easy on the language and such.
