Would you accept G.I. Joe Resolute if it was dumbed down?
That's the subject for the poll of the week(POW) for this week. What Resolute fans are worried about, is Resolute being toned down. We all knew that this cartoon is not for the kids. It isn't aimed at the kids. The SDCC trailer certainly proved it. As older joe fans, we have desired a cartoon that was aimed at us, "grew with us", and thought it would never happen. In a society that predominantly looks at toys, comics, and cartoons as forms of entertainment for children, some of us thought that a G.I. Joe cartoon for us would be impossible. The announcement of Resolute and it's trailer premiere at SDCC proved otherwise. With Warren Ellis writing the series, fans knew that Hasbro wasn't playing it soft and was headed in a direction that pleased older fans. Last week's POW proved that Resolute is more popular with us than the upcoming movie. Sure some of us are excited for both, but Resolute is what we impatiently await. Yet what if this animated gold, was dumbed down? What if Hasbro decided to direct this at a much younger audience, toning down the mature overtones, bringing back the Sunbow lasers that killed absolutely nothing, and have a production team known for making acclaimed animated series for older fans, make a cartoon aimed at kids.....? It's like telling a sprinter in a race, to walk, or crawl. Would you stand for it? Would you still want to watch Resolute, even if the intentions to make it were swayed, and made it's purpose of appealing to an older audience self-defeating? Rise of Cobra has the appeal and market to capture a larger audience, so Resolute should be kept the way it was intended, mature right? So how would you feel if the only G.I. Joe cartoon ever aimed at us was changed to be aimed at kids, giving us absolutely nothing? SOUND OFF! |

A couple of months ago, I would have voted "No."
But with IDW Comics publishing Larry Hama's excellent GI Joe: Origins and thus providing me with a version of GI Joe that has aged and grown up with me and seems to be more in line with my current tastes in stylized military fiction (if you haven't read the first issue, you're missing out on some of Hama's best comics work since leaving Marvel), I think a "dumbed down" GI Joe Resolute wouldn't bother me as much. I would be pleased with any cartoon, really. I greatly enjoy Spectacular (Spec-tac-ular!!) Spider-man and Transformers Animated. I would like for more kids to get into the toys. I really do hope Resolute goes ahead as planned, but I would not pan it if it was not mature adults only.
I guess my opinion goes against most here. And the poll writer. I do not feel that we are entitled to a mature cartoon, just that it would be crazy awesome.

I'd be fine with it. Honestly I'd prefer a 30 minute dumbed down cartoon over a 5 minute ultra violent webtoon any day.

i would prefer for it to stay the way it was attended which is for us adults, but really as long as they kept the detail of the cartoon, then id be cool with them toning it down, at this point i would just be glad they are putting out new joe cartoons.
