Despite the fact that gi joe is perfect material for a video game call of duty style -btw I think that a great video game will boost the brand- I am not optimistic about it at least until the third movie...
it seems that hasbro doesnt believe that a good video game will help the brand. What iritates me is that hasbro seems to understand and acknowledge the influence of call of duty or halo to their potential buyers, as we often see elements from these video games in the figs... (halo head of joe retaliation trooper, shock trooper from poc etc) my only hope for a good video game is after the third gi joe movie. Then hasbro will have to do something... I dont believe that it will be a renegades season 2, so I suppose that hasbro will concetrate on giving us a decent video game... |

The Transformers games were AMAZING. Totally catered to REAL fans. High Moon stated that while they would love to do a Joe based game, the franchise is scattered and getting all the rights in order is a fiasco. I remember in an issue of a gaming mag they were asked about Joe vs TF and they said they'd rather focus on the creation of the Joe team to combat the new threat of Cobra

The problem is that video games are soooo expensive to make. Someone mentioned COD and Halo. Those cost mega bucks. The market is already flooded with subpar 1st person shooters. On top of that are quite a few above average games that do not sell big numbers because they are not the COD and Halos. It would kind of put hasbro between a rock and a hard spot.

Personally, I would like to see something like Shadow Complex, but split up into missions or areas that used a different character/specialist. Monetary wise, it would be do-able. Sales wise who knows what would happen though. Maybe I would be the only one buying it. That brings the second problem. What Joe fans do exist can't even decide on what figures we all want, much less what kind of game.

Hasbro's approach to Joe with a cartoon series was one of the major reasons why the line was so successful. It really put it in the forefront of kids minds and added an extra element that no other brand had at that time; A constant, half-hour commercial. Hasbro seems to think movies will do the same and I'm not sure it will. It's great for the time it's going to come out until the DVD is released but the hype wares off too quickly to support a whole toy line.
A well constructed game could offer a level of immersion that no other form of media can compare to. Being able to pick a class, specialize in a weapon or combat style, the ability to customize your characters look and get together with your friends to blast the hell out of each other might go a lot farther in making Joe a major name again then a movie every 2 years or so. If the game was built with some real attention to it then the replay value would ensure a longer lived fan base. I am guessing getting a well made game made is more expensive then a movie but it might be worth it?

I'd love it if it was done Gears of War style.

Yes, this exactly. Something where you get play with your joes like you did as a kid. Developing/customizing a nice fleet of vehicles and infantry, and then getting to put them into action ; deploying on missions around the world. Almost a sim, but you have to battle RTS to progress. The GIJOE animated show was mainly about hot sticky wet military action, but you be able to stop and appreciate the many interesting vehicles and troop types in an interactive fashion.

Console video game sales have been plunging for years. If they didn't make one before, they are not going to take the risk now. Also I owned Transformers: the game for a few days. It was a heaping POS.

If this game was made right would boost the toy line more than the movie!
