I think it has helped it a bit actually.
Take myself for example. Collecting the 25th line has made me yearn for Joes that haven't been made in the 25th line, especially vehicles. So far i have picked up an Imp, a Devilfish, a DTC Hiss, three Snowcats I am restoring and am looking at a Moray, Polar Bear and possibly some other stuff.
Now I am certain i am not the only one to be turned onto vintage stuff by the 25th line. More interest means more buyers means more ebay bids, higher prices. Supply is low because these are vintage toys, if demand goes up prices will follow.

Yes, as I sold mine and don't buy any Joes pre-25th. And never will. I can only see few people wanting the old ones for nostalgia reasons.
Loyal fan since 1982.

I think this is good for MIB/MOC collectors.
The same thing happened to Star Wars during the POTF years. The vintage A-wing was selling for $700-900 LOOSE and $1200-1500 boxed. Once Hasbro released it on the modern POTF2 line, the loose price dropped $200-300 almost instantly as people who just wanted one were able to get the same vehicle, cheaper. Those who wanted the vintage one had to still pay the premium, but not much.
Same goes with the current Joe lineup. Those who just want a Rattler can get one for $25 whereas if you want a vintage one will have to pay a little more. But a boxed vintage will still command a high premium.
take away the loose, casual collectors and demand drop across the board. Those who can afford a MIB version to open will now choose the current one. Unless they are purist.
This also helps vintage collectors who want old stuff, but feel the prices are too far out of reach.
Give it time and the vintage will adjust after the "newness" of the current line loses it's luster.

i bought a vintage rattler about 2 years ago.i say the reissue rattler is quite weak along with some of the other reissued vehicles.
for example the firebat and rattler are a weaker plastic aswell as theier canopys.also the plastics are a diff color.
the reissue canopys are clear and more brittle than the arah tinted canopys.
weaker immitations could slightly bring down the price on certain arah items. but in the antique maket these reissues would be considerd fakes.
i do understand that some of the modrnized vehickles such as the skyhawk may appear cooler, but in all aspect a toy that is 25 years old is vintage and has more sentimental value aswell as dollar value.
just compair the vintage firebats and rattlers to the modern versions and i am positive you would agree.

I quit buying anything 25th. Only buy cheap lots for customs. The quality of the figures (durability) is below that of the original ARAH series. I think the vehicles are pretty much cheap re-hash of the originals and do not even come complete. Just look at the c.la.w. and the rattler.
I may just be an old fogy, but I love my vintage stuff. I also like to make the ARAH customs because of the challenge. I honestly think the movie toys are going to tank. They look like $%!#. I believe the movie will be on par with Transformers and hopefully the new comic line will follow the success of the original ARAH Marvel line.......and that's all I got to say about that.

I always find myself agreeing with Ewokhunter92 and crock master. Both responses make complete sense to me.

I would have a hard time getting rid of my ARAH collection because it has such sentimental value.I do however agree that the 25th line is certainly better.I collect both. The prices on ARAH figs are dropping slightly, but you also have to remember that:
1.It is right after x-mas,all things evil-bay are easier to aquire the first few months after christmas.
2.The economy is in the Tank(no pun intended)and fewer people are bidding on items, therefore they are going for cheaper prices.
3.Like you said some Joe collectors are done with ARAH due to the 25th line.
There are alot of factors right now that are driving the prices of the original ARAH line down, and the 25th line is certainly one of them

Yes, I think it will. I used to collect the vintage 1960 gijoe figures and in the 90's they were top dollar. A Japanese figure would go for $625.00 complete. Back in 2003, Hasbro released the 40th anniversary figures that were incredibly close to the originals. They were great reproductions for a fraction of the cost and they were released in retro style packaging that very closely resembled the originals. After their release, the prices of the originals dropped by around 50%. That hurt if your collection was worth 10 grand.
There are several important factors though:
1. At some point, the non collectors - the investors or get rich quick buyers will abandon the series and go elsewhere. This will cause a big dip in the prices.
2. reissued figures and vehicles and will cause the originals to go down in value.
3. Non reissued figures and vehicles from the original 80's series will go up in value because of the new or renewed interest generated from 25th anniversary collectors.
The one thing that bothers me though is the scalpers that try to force figures to be rare or valuable. One great example is Blowtorch. I found a local hobby shop where I live that got wave 13 back in late November. The very day that they showed up I arrived 20 minutes after they opened and all 4 cases of wave 13 were opened and picked clean of Blowtorch and the Cobra Resolute figure. Piss me off. Everything else was there except those two. Since November, I have never seen either Blowtorch, Cobra Commander, Cobra resolute trooper or Firefly in any store.
I wouldn't put any money on 25th/modern figures as long term valuables. The fact that Hasbro is selling AFA figures on their website proves they will never have long term value. Back in the 80's hardly no one was collecting toys in the packages, hence the scarcity and value of Scarlett, Snake Eyes 1 or Storm Shadow 1 on sealed cards. I remember going to ToysRUs when I was about 14 years old with my older brother. We were looking for Scrap Iron and Baroness. My older brother asked one of the store clerks to see if they had any more and he came out with a case of them. He cut open the box and pulled out both figures. There must have been at least two of every figure in there, unpunched and no orange ToysRUs stickers applied. That was a series 3 case with Storm Shadow and Firefly. I can only dream what that case sealed would be worth today.
