Yeah thats true, or they'll bottom out, people will sell them on the cheap just to get rid of them, then 25 years from now no one will have them anymore! I had a lot of baseball cards from the 80's and 90's and then people said they wouldn't be worth anything because EVERYONE was collecting them, and now no one has them because they we're worth so little for so long.
Hum, very interesting thoughts.

I at one point had almost every thing from 82 - 86. Since the 25th line has come out I sold most of my old stuff. In my sales I have had some things go slightly cheaper then they would have a few years ago. The one thing I have noticed are things like parts for the Flagg have been going for high price. When I bought my flagg about 5 years ago it was $100 near complete. I have sold alot of parts off of it in the past year. I think I made around $500 and I still have alot of parts left. There will always be someone looking for some harder to find stuff. Years ago I would have never dreamed of selling my vintage stuff but, The 25th line is so much better imho.

Well for me i am into vintage as well as the 25th the original can never be replaced there will always be some difference between new and old. i like both and i have both i would say the main reason is i grew up with the original and there is that value for it

That is my point, with the 25th line I find myself not caring about the original stuff so much. I am glad to pass on a 1980's Stinger now that the 25th one will be out soon. I don't care as much for the resale value of the new stuff, that is why I open everything, yet it is because of the new stuff that I have removed thoughts of buying older items from my wish list.

I know a few people who share your opinion, but I know even more who feel so different. I am hearing more and more of people who start to sell their vintage when a new item or figure is released.

Some things from the ARAH times will always be popular, even if they remake them. I think the 25th line is killing the 88-94 stuff the most, it was never very popular with collectors (for the most part) and now, its like why bother?
I know I hardly spend anything on ARAH anymore, just because I'm wrapped up with 25th stuff and you can do so much MORE with the 25th figures.. I dunno. I have a decent sized ARAH collection (of crap), only notable things being a MISB Cobra Mamba and a Python Patrol Conquest with one flap open. The rest of it needs cleaning and upkeep!

sentimentality plays a major role in collecting. "stuff" is latched onto because of the memories. in toy collections, a relaunch like the 25th doesn't come around all the time. in fact, only once every 25 years in our case. LOL.
that said, the revamped molds and articulations make them that much more appealing. they're newer, tougher, even sexier versions of the originals. i'm a collector that was reborn with the 25th. prior to this, i was not collecting at all!. but when i came across the modern relaunch, i was instantly hooked. it started with a 25th Storm Shadow V1, for old times sake. quickly thereafter I went on a rampage. now i'm a junkie. i can see some old schoolers hanging on to their beloved ARAH's, and rightfully so. they were there all along. they've been hard at work in this game since day one. to conclude, i dont think the 25th will hurt ARAH at all. if anything, it's revamped the pool of collectors... and there's safety in numbers. |
