I happen to catch season 2 episode 1 of the tv cartoon series back in the 80's. General Hawk gave a quick ranking list. First it was him of course, Duke, Flint, then Beachhead.

I've been working on my Joe team and I keep getting hung up with all of the mundane support elements that go along with a unit like this. Just the Command Section alone will make you go cross-eyed! Anyway, here is a watered down version of a HQ section:

A lot of your "mundane" jobs fall into what I call support or non-operational billets. In my mind, the Joes are a team of operators. Some may be assigned collateral duties from time to time in the form of one of these support tasks, but for the most part, regular military personnel with high level security clearance handle the day to day support roles. Let's take the USS Flagg for instance. While USS Flagg is a dedicated GI Joe asset, it is operated and maintained in the same manner as regular naval warships. She is staffed by a complete crew of regular military personnel (vetted, of course) that handle the day to day operations. When the Joe team is aboard, operational command and control, as well as shipboard defense and intelligence duties are handled by them. I wouldn't expect the whole Joe team to be busting rust, painting, cleaning, changing light bulbs, cleaning toilets, washing dishes, and taking out the trash. Aircraft carriers have crews that number in the thousands. The typical divisions/departments needed to operate a nuclear powered aircraft carrier (CVN) are listed below. I have marked the departments in which my Joes are assigned for both combat operations, and collateral duties.
Administrative- Collateral Aircraft Maintenance- Collateral Air- Combat Ops Chaplain- Collateral Combat Systems- Combat Ops Deck Dental Engineering Legal Maintenance- Collateral Medical- Combat Ops and Collateral Navigation- Combat Ops and Collateral Operations- Combat Ops Public Affairs- Collateral Reactor Safety Supply- Collateral Training- Collateral Weapons- Combat Ops and Collateral Last edited by Everett Colby; 12-27-2014 at 08:34 PM.. What size unit is your Joe command based on Darkhawk? I'm counting 13 Colonels.

in one of my recent fan-fic stories, I stated the Flagg was crewed by the Navy and only Keel-Haul was an actual Joe. After the Joes were shut down in 1994, (as seen in the comics) the Flagg was reassigned to the USN and Keel Haul retired. Skystrikers assigned to the Flagg were transferred to the USN Aviation force as F-14F Skystrikers.

I use the Marauders as the Joes Force Development Squadron, consisting of the Selection and Assessment Cell, Operator Training Group and Combat Development (Doctrine, Lessons Learned) Cell.
I use all the foreign Marauders to pad out the group, along with all the foreign variants of the Sarge (Smasher, Driller, Brutamontes etc) With the Marauders you get; Low Light - Marksmanship, Fieldcraft Footloose - Weapons, PT (his SMS is Basketball Coach), Explosives Spirit - Reconnaissance, Fieldcraft, Survival, Herbal Medicine, Navigation / Map Reading BBQ - I use him as more than a regular firefighter. He can do much more than put out fires and change alarms. Like some Metropolitan fireman he's EMT trained and was a member of the Boston Rescue Squad, so he's trained in Breaching (Mechanical - Jaws of Life, using fire axes, halligan tools etc), Search and Rescue (probably dive qualified too but not like Deep Six or a SEAL), HAZMAT and havimg his family in the business for generations he probably knows a bit about Arson investigation and explosives or anything incendiary. Mutt - Animal Handling (MWD, Pack Animals) Now almost required capability after the SF guys having to get around on horseback in Afghanistan Also, apologies DH if we've hijacked your thread Last edited by Tyroc; 01-02-2015 at 05:32 PM.. |
