I just have a hard time understanding why any chick would have a problem with it. I know there are just as many different women out there as there are men, but I can't imagine why anyone would have a problem going to a comic book convention. There's something at a comic book convention for everyone. I've known girls who wouldn't set foot in a convention, but spend hours on the weekend wandering around flea markets.
we never made eye contact. |

Most of the girls who have a problem with toy collectors/comic collectors all have those awesome alpha male boyfriends. You know the jocks turned corporate executives who are boning their secretaries and beat the hell out of their women. Maybe if they gave a geek a chance they would find out where the real men are.
I would tend to disagree that an alpha male has to be a jock, but I take your meaning. I haven't really made any female friends since college and most of them are formers, but many of my female friends from high school and college are now divorced. Some of them because they left the guy, others because he left them. But the one constant I've notice is that they're all around the same age, typically within two or three years , when they get married and then also when they get divorced. 99% of my friends, male and female, that got married within 5 years of high school never made it to the three year anniversary. One of the girls explained it to me by saying that when all their friends start getting married and they've been to two or three weddings and a couple of baby showers, they start to think it's just time to get married. So they marry their partner and end up realizing they're unhappy with that descision a few years later. I just don't see the logic behind getting married just because everyone else is. I really do see that logic more from the girls I know than from the guys. One of my best friends got married a year or so after high school, joined the Navy, they travelled for a few years while he served and then they got divorced right before he got out. He's been totally miserable since then. I feel bad for him. |

Young love is often foolish. However, make sure you don't lump us all together. I've been with my wife since we were 19, back in 2002. We married right after I got out of college in 2005 (a week after, actually), and we're still wonderfully happy four years later. Actually, more so now than when we married.

Replace "comic books" with action figure", throw in some booze and you see how I live my own life.

Some females (and males for that matter) don't seem to understand that what they consider silly is actually something their significant other holds in high regard. The girl that I was seeing LOVED expensive make up. I never knocked her for it..because hey, it's her way of collecting. I yell out "SWEET! EELS!!"...and she yells out "SWEET! FOUNDATION!". I just find that it's a hard pill to swallow when "your" significant other finds fault in your hobbies and/or past times as though it doesn't "make sense", yet seem to be able to find justification in all that they do. Maybe that's why I'm single again. At least my cat doesn't judge me. A couple of treats and he's good to go! I prefer to picture you in one of those snuggy deals, drunk with toilet covers around your neck singing depeche mode songs. That ok? |

I totally get your point, but for the record, I am not that type of girl. I wouldn't be here if I were, I don't think. Everyone has their obsessions, I guess, it's just that some of ours are cooler than others.
And those ponies ROCK. I am humbled. I just finished my first - need to post some pics. I'm just saying...
