I am starting to like the Black Timber SE more and more. Mine has a slight tear at the bottom of the card and I still would not sell it for less than $50. I think it looks sick

I dont know if I should say I got lucky or if I should say I got robbed
I have a gold head destro and rowdy piper - both graded 85+nm by afa - both on ebay for $250 each during xmas.. the seller had them both at over $400 buy it now.. or best offer.. he declined my offer on the rowdy piper.. and then countered my offer on the gold pdd.. I took his counter on the destro and then he offered me the rowdy piper for the $250.. he shipped both of them for the total $500 I didnt buy these as investments though.. I bought them as part of my collection.. Im a completist.. and it was a good deal for me.. I still need a yellow stalker.. and gung-ho anchor hat variant. (as a side note - the guy above said the variant was an unpainted anchor - there is also a single charge painted anchor floating around.. ) anyone want to trade or sell me 1 ;) |

There are also variants in lower numbers than the PPD or RP that havent been on Ebay. These might go for more since you never see them. For the most part if you have money you can find a RRP or PPD or any of the other variants listed but how often have you seen the dark hooded cobra commander from wave one or wider diaper crotch snake eyes from wave 5?
I got one of each but its the only ones I have ever seen. I guess these are more for the completist than the average collector. |

I wouldn't suggest anyone to invest in any one figure with hopes that it will be "worth" a certain amount in the future. I mean if you got something when it was at retail price and then saved it until there was a higher demand for it so that you could turn around and make a profit then yeah that's great. Otherwise I don't see any point on spending $100 or so now on something that was originally $4.99 unless you personally need it to complete a collection.
Supply and demand can be a very scary thing especially when you are talking about investing money in collectibles. Just look at all of those Star Wars POTF2 figures from 1995 and on. They aren't "worth" anything now, but at the hieght of their popularity some figures were going for as much as these G.I. Joe variants. One figure that comes to mind was the Theather edition of Luke in his Jedi outfit. You couldn't find one for less than $100 a few years back. Now they are going for $5-$15 or so on Ebay. How about the Target exclusive lava Darth Vader. They were going for $150 on Ebay the day of release, but now they start at 99 cents and Buy It Now for $19.99. It's hit or miss on these things. I see the same thing happening to yellow Stalkers and black Timbers eventually as well.

Also, collectors will take a Green Stalker for under $10 to complete their collection in lieu of paying $200+ for Yellow. But they still "need" a Silver or Gold PDD to fully complete their 25th. Make sense? Thus they'll go out and shell a few extra quid for their missing link. The only variant that I believe will hold up just as long as exclusives is the Clear Wraith. |
