I'm getting ready to buy a home this year, and one of the things I'll be lucky enough to pull off is my own toy room. I collect both transformers and joes, but while the tfs and joe figures easily display on their two legs, joe vehicles take up a sizable amount of real estate. I've got a pretty large collection of vehicles, most of the main stuff from the 80's, except for the jeeps and tanks, and I'm planning on hanging all of the jets from the ceiling.
the shelving units I use are all open with no side panels, and approximately 2'x1'. a vehicle like the whale would pretty much take up an entire shelf, so I don't see putting the vehicles on those as an option. any other ideas? how do some of you display your vehicle collections?

When I had my Toy Room I actually displayed the bases and set them up around that.

You could mount long shelves to the wall. I had this done, and they fit tons of vehicles. The shelves are about 8 ft long, and about a foot and a half wide. I started around 4ft. off the floor and went up 3-4 shelves on on two walls.
If you have a flagg, get it off the floor, and set that on a table. then underneath the table, you have room for the terrordrome, Mcc, or any other really large playsets. I wish I could take some pictures to help, but mine is currently packed up, as I am getting ready to move to another house. Here is an example though of someone elses: http://photos.yojoe.com/showphoto.ph...90&ppuser=1053 |

i use several display methods but the best i have i think are adjustable metal shelves from cosco. i paid $78 bucks for this one and it has a nice set of locking wheels. i am a carpenter and have built some nice display cabs, but you can't beat this for the price. it has a nice chrome finish and if you get some nice wood planks(in this case baltic birch), to put on the shelve stations it comes out looking pretty sharp. that is if your not renovating around it at the same time. you gotta have the plywood though to keep everything on a nice even plane. if your tool-less, have them cut the ply at the depo. i will be buying a couple more of these guys for sure.

I'm about to build a new Pit playset that will be able to house my moderate size joe collection.

are you planning on building the multi-level base as seen in issue one? i'd love to see that. those shelves i posted might work for that actually. simply an easier way to spin it around and move, to see it in 3d. just leave out some of or all of the adj. shelves. are you going to use the orig. hq as the top level, or make your own?

Very interesting! I too have thought about building a scale model of the Pit. I drew a rough sketch of it with some measurements and it came out to like 5 ft. tall. (but that includes a 1ft. base and the Motor Pool above ground.) Even thought about using some power antenna motors to make the lifts go up and down. Just need some time and room to start a monster project like this. |

I totally agree. A swiveling multi level Pit reconstruction would be ridiculously awesome. It would require a ton of money though.
