My wife didn't want me to start collecting the 25th line, but she doesn't mind it now since I have not been buying Transformers. She is even checking for figs for me at stores near the mall where she works.

You know what? Yesterday while trying to get the Legions pack at Target, my wife told me that she is starting to enjoy the "hunt" while looking for these figures.
She was more upset than I was when all 6 Legions packs (that had been there the day before) were now gone. (a lady at Target said a man came in and bought 7 grocery carts full of toys at the 75%) We drove to three Targets and she was all "hurry, we have to find those figures." I love my wife more and more every day.

My wife is pretty much okay with it. I have not shared with her the extent of my every other day searches. I work mainly weekends and she works during the week so it kind of helps to have an alternating schedule so I can go search my local stores and not have to answer to "Where are you going?". I have also told her to keep my hobby under her hat as I kind of feel like the "Forty-Year Old Virgin".
Besides if she throws a stink I'll just bring up the fact that she buys cigarettes every other day in her face! |

Well my wife tolerates it. She doesn't completely understand it even though I have explained why I do it. If she brings up the issue of me spending money on it I just bring up her hobby of shopping. I spend far less on my hobby then she does on hers. But we love each other. If she is in a store she will make a quick trip to the toy section and give me a call if there is something there. She has no clue what I have and dont have, to her they are all the same. At least she calls me to let me know there is something there.

My wife tolerates it but doesn't want to know how much I spend. If anything, if the toys come first before her or for some reason, If I'm late on my bills or the family vacation doesn't happen because of my toy collection, then that would be bad.
I will say that in 2006, when I was doing major hunting...it became to addictive that our trip to Seattle, Boston and New York City was canceled because I blew too much on purchasing toys. Also, another thing that makes it even worse for me is space issues. It was so bad that 40 gallon bins were dominating my office, one bedroom, the garage and the storage. I had about 20+ of 40 gallon bins worth of stuff. But I promised her I would sell everything and at first I thought I would miss it....I really don't. I realized that the stuff I did care for is the GI Joe collectibles. I didn't really care for my Marvel Legends, DC Direct Stuff, Transformers, Star Wars as I once thought. So, I'm quickly eliminating the clutter, and again, she doesn't know what I spend but as I mentioned on another post, what I paid for the figures and vehicles, I'm losing money than breaking even or making money. So, I'm glad that she doesn't know that. The same with video games and my DVD's...I started putting those in CD/DVD binders because it was growing too quickly and she knows because of my business, I rarely have time for them. So, 2007...I pretty much stopped collecting, getting rid of stuff and although I'm collecting again in 2008...and yeah, I have spent several hundred on getting all the Sigma stuff I missed in 2007 and on the 25th Anniversary stuff but that's only several hundred versus several thousand dollars.

My wife has actually made a trip to find some for me. She'll call me and tell me which ones they have. She's not exactly thrilled at the prospect of spending money, but it's so much cheaper than my other hobbies. I'm not a big toy collector, but I had GI Joe when I was little, so I'm on a mission to get all the 25th anniversary ones. Other than that, there aren't any toys I'm really worried about. I'm a history buff, so I've been collecting older war rifles, and I just sunk a couple grand into my Jeep. I think she's just happy the dollar amount on the hobby of the year has dropped by leaps and bounds; at least temporarily. I'm the only male amongst three females (my two girls and my wife), so I think there's a sympathy card to be played here.

My wife barely tolerates it, and that's on a good day. Granted, she doesn't make me feel bad for doing it, but she doesn't exactly comb toy aisles for me while I'm at work like some seem to be reporting.
Honestly, I'm glad she at least tolerates it. If not, well, it would be a lot harder to be married to her. |
