Howdy,
So I'm trying to put a new o-ring and a new crotch on my Zartan and I cannot get the torso to come apart. Actually, it is two Zartans, and the one with the unbroken crotch that I was going to switch over is now a broken crotch in my attempt to get the torso to come apart! Yes, I took the screws out of both, but now I cannot get either one apart. Is there a trick to Zartan? Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. p.s. If anyone has an extra Zartan crotch for sale, that would be nice too. p.s.s. I say crotch way too many times... |

I believe the V1 Zartan was glued together in addition to his back screw... never knew why.
You might have to carefully scribe along the seam with an exacto knife.

Thanks for the tips. Shoot, not really crazy about putting a knife to him, cause I know for sure I would screw it up, but it sounds like that may be what I have to do. Is there any chance of putting him in boiling water for a bit that might help him come apart? Or might the hair dryer trick work? Guess I should have never taken him apart!

Others have tried boiling him with very mixed results (Usually the torso gets warped though & is ruined)
I've always used an exacto knife. Just go slow and don't worry about the small pegs that help line the torso up, just cut right trough them |

remember, you can use the back part of the vest as a guide for the knife blade. It's just the shoulders where you're on your own

Yep the exacto knife is the best method, back when I had my collection (pre-Katrina) I had the same proplem, and the exacto knife saved the day.

I didn't do this on a Zartan, but I did successfully do this on a Cobra TRU 6 pack guy. I just needed to replace the O-ring, and I found he was glued.
If your hands aren't steady though, I'd agree, the office co-pay and stitches (or death, if you knick an artery in your hand) aren't really worth it. The public service announcement being over, I worked from the bottom of the seam up towards the armpit. Slicing, stopping, then gently prying. Repeat until the halves separated. But on older figures, sometimes where the back and front of the torsos meet will crack. I've had that happen on some non-glued figures, simply when putting a screw back in, or even putting in a backpack in the back peg hole. Good luck! Remeber, be careful if you use any sharp instruments... "And knowing is half the battle!" |
