So, after this weekend it's pretty obvious that Hasbro is going to focus on the Movie-Line and that's that. My biggest fear is will G.I. JOE fall into the same situation like Indiana Jones? Last year with The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, Hasbro made Indiana Jones toys. At first it seem like they were selling very well, being a movieline product stores were severly oversaturated. We all know what happened, the line was discountinued. Every year I see this trend, big buget summer movie gets a toyline that oversaturates the shelves that when the movie's out on DVD or Christmas comes around it looks like the products don't move as much as the toy companies want them to and what happens....
G.I. JOE is a major brand for Hasbro, G.I. Joe was the first Action Figure 40+ years ago. Now, thanks to Transformers, Joe is finally on the big screen. I already know that we're gonna get bombarded with movieline stuff that most of us aren't buying everything that's coming out. Some of this might even hit shelves this spring when the movie is 5-6 months away. Anyway, my fear is that with all the money going into the movieline. If the toys don't sell to Hasbro's expectations and they finally pull the plug on Joe what would you do? The 25th line is awesome and to think it was only suppose to be 15 figures to where we are now. It will be a sad day if/when Joes are off the shelves. |

They are 2 different toylines. Ones fate is not dependent on the others success or failure. That's why the 25th toys are being removed from stores as to not confuse the kids buying the movie product.

i wouldn't be to worried about the modern line. it's been sellling to well for them for it to be dropped. at worst it will go all internet/retail exclusives. just my opinion.

It will be ok. The movie line well will help it (of course), but if it bombs we'll still get stuff, but perhaps not quite as much.

I think the movie line could be a new era for GI Joe, rather than the end of it. As with Transformers, the upcoming movie is an movie based off of toys, instead of an line of toys based off of an movie. People know GI Joe, and are more likely to pick up a movie Joe than they are an Indiana Jones figure, they are less likely to be familiar with.
But if it is the end of the line, what will I do? Find a different hobby obviously. I'll probably still buy vintage stuff though. |

December 09 holidays will be the tell all. If at that point the movie line is not selling they will fade it out and go on with the mod era line. If so it will be at the slower pace.

The GI Joe brand itself will never fade away.
the 3 3/4 figures have been around for 27years now, and it does suck that the line of figures we are all clamoring for is being put on hiatus for a time but I agree, the company wants to push the movie line for now, and it makes sense with all the money they have put into the film. Best case scenario the movie line bolsters sales of the GI Joe brand and then makes stores take the line more seriously and before you know it the store shelves are over-flowing with Joes, movie and modern/25th and it looks like 1986 all over again! lol Again.. best case scenario... and if the movie line flops Hasbro will hopefully realize they should stick to what they know sells.. the Modern/25th line (which includes Resolute) b/c as much as we get mad at them for making us wait.. we all know we'll be right there ready to buy once they are available again!

However, I don't see that happening. I see the movie being anywhere from a moderate hit to a blockbuster, and the toy line being the same. There'll be too much name recognition and advertising for it to be anything else.
