Comic version made Serpentor a better character. The whole "This I Command" thing on the cartoon was kinda corny.

As far as catch phrases go, they could have did alot worse than "This I command". I really dig cartoon Serpentor because he's deep on levels that the writers probably didn't even think of. At times he rules like the supreme being he was created to be, but ultimately he is a victim of his own self centeredness. Also at times he'll act like a big spoiled baby, because that's exactly what he is. I think it was really cool to get to see the dynamic between two leaders (CC and Serps) one who took an endless amount of blame for things that were usually beyond his control, while the other's impulsiveness and inability to view his own faults would often snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, yet he was adored and respected.

Gotta go with the comic. Dr.Mindbender and Destro were out to create the perfect soldier, Cobra's Captain America. Serpentor comes to life in the middle of the attack on Springfield and leads Cobra in battle, and through his leadership and charisma, gained a following. Cobra Commander thought he was going to have a super soldier at his command and instead ended up with a rival.
