I think only about half of my Joes when I was younger were bought at stores. I remember I would get LOTS of my Joes at yard/garage sales. I remember hopping in the back of my Moms car on saturdays hoping to see toys as we pulled up infront of a yard sale. I remember getting an impecable wild bill w/Dragonfly for like 50 cents around '89...

Some garage sales and Rea and Derick drug stores. Every now and again I would find something at a grocery store.

Children's Palace, Wal-mart, Toys R Us. No Target in KC back then, and Kaybee Toys was to expensive. I remember when I had to hunt down a Gung-Ho in Dress Uniform and had to pay a horrible $5.99 at K-Mart because no one else had one. I sometimes saw Joes at garage sales, once I saw a Flagg for $50 2 years in a row at the same house. I still regret not buying it.

Flea markets! I remember finding my first Major Bludd there when I was like 10 and thinking I had scored a super rare, ultra valuable fig. Then again, I thought that about all the figs I got at flea markets, yard sales, whatever. Yeah, I remember every time we'd stop at a yard sale I'd look for the toys. No toys? Can we go now?
Who am I kidding, I'm still that way. Oh, and I traded Joes with other kids a lot too. |
