They exist everywhere. As I personally open my figures, I actually try to pick up bent cards/ dented bubbles, so the guys who keep 'em packaged have a better shot at getting non-damaged ones.

Hmmm... I have never had a big problem finding pristine condition singles on the pegs at retail, but 90% of the vehicles I have seen there have at least one major ding on the plastic part (especially the top edge) and a lot of the times the box is just beat to hell. LOL.
Whenever I see a popular fig with a bend in its card I always assume it's either another collector doing it or it's just fate telling me that toys are meant to be played with. LOL. I'm so glad I am not a MOC guy; the stress of trying to find perfect packages would probably kill me. LOL. |

I know that before I came over to the "sandbox" on the other side of the world, I would go Joe hunting and would come across most of the Joe's crushed or the cards bent to hell. I mean there is nothing that can be done since the employees don't really care and the people that do it (IMO), do it cause they can't find what they are looking for. It could be a whole lotta things the point is that why ruin it for everyone else? I mean are their lives that miserable? Just my opinion.

I havent had as much problems with carded figures (not just joes), most damage packaging I see are of boxed toys. I noticed them especially at christmas when I was trying to buy some Pixar Car toys for my nephew and neice, literally 70% of them had damaged boxes. Also ever since the vehicles came out Ive seen a bunch of damaged boxes there as well, where the clear plastic is crushed down or ripped from the box. I chalk it up to fragile boxes and poor handling, which is always a recipe for a ruined box. The more sturdier boxes that the TRU 5 packs and DVD sets come in are always intact. If its not a solid cardboard box, but has a window or open side with cardboard sticking out, its just asking to be ripped IMO...

That said, I've seen plenty of bent cards and crushed bubbles here. Even in comic shops (where you think people would get it). |

Here in Canada, I see this as well. It doesn't really bother me as I open and display what I buy. It makes it easier that we also get the "Generic" non-specific Canadian packaging, which I don't think is worth collecting.

I think it happens during transportation from Hasbro to US. I assume there's lots of handling. Planes, Trains, Boats, Forklifts, People etc....

I saw some torn cards at the local Super Target today. One Mutt/Junkyard, one Airborne and 2 Cobra Divers.
I asked for the manager to see if I could get a discount, but he wouldn't do it. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, he gave a discount on the already discounted UBP a couple weeks ago. He did say it was becoming more of a problem here lately. |
