Tankers I need your help. My wife and I have been married for 4 years. We're both in our early thirties. We have 1 girl aged 17 and 2 boys between us aged 13 and 3. She knows my love for and passion about collecting comics, movies, cartoons and toys as I've always been upfront about it and usually she is at the worst accepting and at the best encouraging. Now with the last year or so of GIJoe toys hitting the shelves I have been collecting that pretty exclusively. Money has not been an issue but space has. I keep the majority of my collection in an air conditioned storage locker in plastic totes. We keep other household stuff there that we don't have space for but its mostly my comics and books and other collectables.
Today she is telling me that she doesn't really understand my desire or need for collecting and is asking "when is it going to stop". I got hit with the "need to grow up" and its "wierd and bizarre" for a grown man to collect toys. Now before this gets worse I want to hear your advice and or related stories especially ones from women who collect or wives/girlfriends who "get it"
Thanks in advance,
Double Touble aka Joshua

as other people said in another thread, its your hobby.
my fiancee encourages me actually, she's happy that I can stay connected to my childhood. Plus I think she secretly wants to make some kickass dioramas with me too, lol.
Try to maybe give a little, i.e. sell some of your older collectibles that you aren't as attached to (or that take up lots of space).
Diamonds would probably help as well, lmao!!!
PS-Nice avatar, hehe

Yeah with the avatars - I was like the dude started a thread, asked a question and then answered it himself. Then I saw the names were different. Whoa - I was weirded out for a minute!
My wife likes it when I return or sell stuff that I do not need or want but somehow got extras of.
Staying honest is always a good policy. Just try to convince her that you are not just wasting money, but really enjoy it as a hobby.

I know I am from a different generation than most of you guys (I am 50, have 3 grown daughters and 3 grandchildren), and my wife, though she is a bookaholic (then on the other hand, so am I, and no, she doesn't read romance, she reads sci-fi, history, fantasy and theology, same as I do, which has worked up into a VERY extensive library in the past 30 years), but I digress.
She is happy to know where I am and what I am doing. I am not out with the boys or whatever, getting drunk, chasing women, smoking pot, etc, etc, all or some of which seem to be the hobbies of WAY too many "grown up" men we have known over the years.
Honestly, she and I have never understood why certain hobbies/activities are deemed "acceptable" and others are frowned upon. If your collecting is having no adverse impact on the family other than someone having asked her "When is your husband going to grow up?", which is what I get from your post, I see no reason to change/give up something you enjoy. And I just asked, and my wife totally agrees with my post.
Or, as a T-Shirt one of my daughters gave me says:
"Growing old is required,
Growing up is optional."

My fiance is supportive and has talked me into buying other joe related stuff (such as Mighty Muggs and Combat Heroes) that I was on the fence about.
I think she has a secret toy crush and is living it through me.

Point her to where the door is. If she has not get it by now then nothing can make her see it.
Anything but to face ourselves as we are...

to me buying joes isnt any worse than buying ciggaretts everyday. if you buy a pack of ciggs every day opposed to a joe every day at the end of the year you have nothing on the cigg side, and on the joe side you have 365 joes. it adds up quick.
not only is it a hobby, it is something that keeps your mind active, reduces stress.
she will see when the joe phase ends .
looks like you will have to build a work shed.
you know all married men love to kick it in their garage or work shed. it is to enjoy the silence minus the wife and kids.
it is like the train room in the basement
