Delta, what DOES your GF think about your collecting? And if she hated it would you really want to be with someone like that> I mean you are not a casual collector as you are here on the tank.
Being a lone sucks I know but being with someone who hates part of who I am I think may be worse. Or changing who I am for a girl is a bit much I think. Million fish in the sea. I love that girl and if she told me I needed to back away from the joes, I would know what she was talking about. It's not a very productive hobby. As far as the whole "GI.Joe is a part of me" aguement goes...well my Grandmother is a big part of me. A part of me that has made me who I am. Well she's stone cold dead, and I'll never see her again. Dose that mean she was never a part of my life? No. Dose that mean all memories of her are now lost? No. Dose that mean I will stuff her and sit her in a rocking chair to "preserve" my memory of her? No (that would make me Ed Gein). You have to let shit go sometimes...thats just life. |

It sounds like shes using collecting as an excuse for something else. My wife is older than me(Im 31, shes 46) and she supports my hobby only because it makes me happy. When she met me I was a little less responsible and she thinks toys are the lesser of the evils. Im sorry to hear your having problems but you have to ask yourself- Is it really the toys? I hope everything works out for you.

"I collect old license plates from other country's. People ask why and all I say is I like them."
DUDE YOU ARE WEIRD!!!! No really, I am looking for the rare 1968 Norwegian "red dot" variant, can you help a brother out? I totally dig that as a collection, how did you even get started on that? I mean Joe's I can understand as we were all hypnotized in the 80's as children but plates from other countries... that is PURE genius!

Sorry fred, not to single you out here, a lot of guys think like you. I think you're completely wrong Here's why. There are a million fish in the sea, but sometimes you find the right one and you need to compromise to have a wonderful relationships. Love isn't about what's "right", it's 100% about sacrafice. I LOVE loud, rock and rap music. The Linkin Park/Jay-Z album is a favorite example. She hates it. I do not every play it in the house, because I don't want her to have to listen to something she hates. If I were to ask, she's say "sure, go ahead, put it on", but that's because she loves me. And because I love her... I just wait and listen to it in the car. Why not be willing to compromise for someone you love? What if she's fine with Joes now, but you grow the collection and 10 years down the road she's suddenly not ok with it? Be willing to make ANY sacrafice for those you love, and life is a whole lot better.

I agree with you Derek, Music is my comprimise too. I cant listen to my stuff in the car or if she can hear it. Im a HUGE Nirvana fan and she thinks it screamy noise. When we got together she didnt know about the toys, it took about 3 months(and her accusing me of cheating cause I wouldnt tell her where I was going and spending alot of money) for her to find out.

Marriage is the most sacred thing on Earth and should not be thought of as anything other then that...
