Hello all you fellow HISStankers! Check out these pics and let me know if anyone knows anything about this! I am bringing back to light, for myself, a ARAH Phantom jet I bought about a year ago. I was getting some toys ready for an eBay sale and I came across this gal. It was in used condition when I bought it but had all the parts, a great condition Ghostrider pilot!, plus a box that was in good shape so I picked it up for a good price. Now the kicker to this jet is the landing gear tab. When I was a kid, I had one one these and the tab was a flat piece that slid backwards from the body. I got this one and it's a lever that comes down. Now as you can see from the 4th picture, I have another phantom that has the design I'm use to knowing. I also have a video of this on Youtube in case anyone wants to see it.
Youtube link: G.I. Joe ARAH Phantom X-19 variant? - YouTube "Was this a fixer upper part," I thought to myself? "No it can't be because the frame is molded to fit for this pull tab and isn't cut." Don't believe me? Check out the video! So it leads me to believe that this, "may," be some sort of prototype, foreign version (Though the box has NO signs of that.), a knock off, A second gen release...... a design mistake? I'm miffed by it! So does anyone know anything about this? I'm curious to find out why this Phantom is designed the way it is. Let me know what you think people! Help me solve a little mystery!

Both versions seem to be equally common. I don't know which one came out first but becuase all of the european versions and the brazilian version have tabs, I would have to guess the slide out version came first and was changed because the landing gear collapsed to easy.

wow that is pretty cool. I had one of those as a kid and it just had the slide. 30 years later and still learning new stuff about old toys!

Yeah....like Viper said - I think the slide one was first and more common stateside and the tab was later on European releases.....something like that anyway. I have one sliding one and my other 3 are all tab.

Just came across this myself and had to do some research. I have 7 phantom bodies and all except one are the slide whereas the 1 had this pull tab thing. I was confused as well...it mentions it in the yojoe under the variations of the vehicle.
Of all the ones on ebay, nobody ever mentions which version it is so I'm guessing either nobody cares or not many people know about it.

This is nice to know. I was looking at getting one. I just remember I had the Night Raven, and they must have revised the landing gear on that vehicle because my first one the gear would always collapse if i backed it up. I saw another one later on that had a notch to secure the mechanism so it wouldn't collapse. Wonder if it's a fix like that?
Is this version better? I am guessing it was done for some engineering reason.
