The Slaughter's Marauders plastic was very shoddy.
I have a set with all broken thumbs on at least one hand, and a set with non-broken thumbs.
I admit, I used to beat the hell outta that team. But still, that plastic was so soft, it made the other figures before that subset came out look like they were made of iron.
With the Marauders, you can even feel the texture difference in the plastic from the original versions from that squad.

My figures always had a someone gets frozen in suspended animation til the other guy can awaken him. But I always had to repair stuff with super glue. I wish I had known about epoxy back then. That stuff works miracles.
But I used to play with my joes in the bushs. I always left their weapons inside the house. I remember playing with them in the bushes and using the hose to simulate rain.

I have two horror stories to share.
The day after I brought home the first Joes- and I mean the FIRST Joes, Snake Eyes, Grunt, and Cobra Enemy, this prick friend of my older brother took them from me and beat them to pieces with a hammer on the sidewalk. I was devastated. Buddy if I ever run into you I hope there's a sledgehammer nearby for a little reenactment.
Second story, Stalker is on watch with Scarlett years later. They have a perfect hidey hole in the back yard, a nicely dug trench complete with overhead cover and concealing camouflage. In a storage trench behind him are almost all my Joe guns- he's guarding the motherlode of weaponry. Then like any dumb 5th grader, I go in the house to eat lunch, leaving my Joes in their clever position for later play. Aftter lunch I'm sentenced to clean my room- ugh.... after waking from a nap at some point later, I go outside to find that granpa has tilled part of the back yard to make a garden. SPrinting to the trench in slo-mo, the word NOOOOOOO forming from my lips, I fell, hopelessly, franticly searching for Stalker and Ms. O'Hara- Surely he has saved her- maybe Granpa saw my clever trenchworks and went around it.... but there it was... a black hand still clutching an uzi...and over there, a mangled crossbow next to what used to be one of the finest thighs ever set in plastic.... My 2 favorite Joes..... All my weapons.... plowed, destroyed....
How does this tie in with the broken thumb thread? Well after having all my Joe guns mangled, I fell back to try using Star Wars guns for the remaining Joes. Ever see a STormtrooper Blaster fit in a Joe's hand? Instant removal of opposable thumb.....
What a tragic childhood...

It was 1989, and I had just traded for a '82 Snake Eyes straight arm. I had him all of 2 minutes, dropped him, and bam, his right arm broke off and disappeared, never to be found again.

Lets see..Stalker had a broken thumb, It was a war wound. Man that pissed me off bad. Many figures had broken thumbs due to biting the hand. Snake eyes was another victim as well as Scarlett. I estimate that a decent portion of figures suffered from broken thumb itis and I can only think of 1 figure that had his crotch broken...........poor Tripwire. Nothing would work for him again.....not even extensz or what ever that stuff is called.
