Night Creepers - The evolution of several Ninja Clans that were all-but wiped out by the Arashikage in the 19th century. The survivors banded together and embraced the modernization of Japan where the Arashikage chose to remain "traditional." (Red Fang is just an elite/unique Night Creeper in my Joe-verse). Despite the history between them, the Night Creepers of today aren't particularly hostile towards the remnants of the Arashikage, because they've become all about greed, which makes them perfect for working with Cobra. However, there is still a strong and not-friendly rivalry with...
The Red Ninjas - A remnant of the Arashikage that hooked up with Cobra following the Hard Master's death (I like the Renegades hints that the Arashikage were NOT nice people and were involved with all sorts of bad stuff prior to the Hard Master's death, so I've played that up in my Joe-verse). They actually joined up with Cobra before Storm-Shadow did, but while Storm-Shadow is technically their leader, he's a disinterested one (focused more on his revenge and his rivalry with Snake-Eyes), which leaves a bit of a power vacuum that "Sei Tin" has largely filled behind Storm Shadow's back. However, Sei Tin is content to publicly play second fiddle to Storm Shadow as long as Stormy continues letting him have a free hand in running the Red Ninja. While they usually manage to keep it non-violent, there's a strong rivalry with the Night Creepers: The Red Ninjas think they're superior because they retain a semblance of honor and tradition, while the Night-Creepers think the Red Ninjas hamper themselves by being old-fashioned and refusing to change with the times. Ninja Vipers - Total wannabes. These are basically dim-witted martial arts enthusiasts that Cobra dupes into joining up with promises of "secret ninja training." They proceed to give them bare-bones, rudimentary training from Slice and Dice, and then use them as cannon-fodder distractions to draw attention away from where Night Creepers, Red Ninjas or any other covert unit is trying to accomplish the REAL mission. Every so often someone that's a little less dimwitted and genuinely talented in the martial arts shows up, and they're usually quickly snapped up by the Night Creepers (or sometimes other branches of Cobra like the Alley-Vipers or EELs, very rarely the Red Ninjas who prefer to recruit "in house" and are leery of non-Japanese in the organization). Black Dragon Ninjas - The modern day versions of the Koga/Iga Ninja clans. Basically the only surviving "true/traditional" Ninja clan. They are not permanently affiliated with Cobra or anyone else, serving purely as independent mercenaries. On the days that I decide Firefly is a Ninja, this is where he originates from/where he got his training. Likewise with some of Zartan's martial arts training. They are traditionalists, but pragmatists when it comes to recruiting (they'll recruit non-Japanese, etc... as long as they have talent, and will train anyone who can meet their exorbitant fees, but keep the "secret techniques" and such for true clan members). The Arashikage - Pretty much nonexistent. They were the leading Clan of the 19th and 20th centuries, but the Hard Master was seen as a controversial figure for starting to allow "outsiders" into the Clan (Most notably Snake-Eyes and prior to him the Blind Master), and for starting to instill a more "honorable" code than the Clan had previously followed. With the Hard Master's death, the Clan largely scattered, with a sizable faction forming the Red Ninja, and most of the rest joining the Black Dragons if they weren't wiped out by their rivals. The Blind Master spirited away and trained the young Kim Arashikage/Jinx to keep her from becoming a pawn or a victim of the machinations that followed, and while they are far from a "clan" Jinx, Snake-Eyes, and Kamakura believe themselves to be the "true" representatives of the Arashikage legacy (or at least the Hard Master's vision for the Arashikage). They'd be happy to include Storm-Shadow among them, if he'd just get over his obsession with trying to one-up Snake-Eyes all the time, and y'know...stop working with Cobra. Slice and Dice: Former Chunin of the Arashikage who were booted from the Clan for too many incidents of unnecessary cruelty and sadism. They went mercenary and never looked back. They've increased their skills over the years to the point of becoming masters in their own right, and are largely in charge of Cobra's Ninja Viper racket when they're not serving as bodyguards for high-ranking Cobras. For all their cruelty and sociopathic tendencies, they're completely and utterly loyal to each other (and yes, it's exactly the kind of relationship you're probably thinking it is, but they're very quiet about it). Ninja-Ku - A former Jonin of the Arashikage who joined the Black Dragons after the Arashikage dissolved, and after learning the high-level techniques of -that- Clan he ditched them. Normally he'd have been killed for his betrayal, but since he's a Ninja that's possibly superior to Snake-Eyes or Storm Shadow in skill, the Black Dragons decided it was more trouble than it was worth and agreed to a truce after several of their Jonin were killed trying to finish him off. After joining Cobra, Ninja-Ku has served as Cobra Commander's personal assassin (where Storm Shadow is his official bodyguard), and Cobra Commander keeps his existence secret from everyone. Ninja-Ku is obsessed with re-forming the Arashikage under his own leadership, with Jinx by his side for legitimacy. Needless to say, Jinx is less than interested in this prospect, and Cobra Commander wisely keeps Ninja-Ku and Storm Shadow separated...for now. Both the Commander and Ninja-Ku know that Ninja-Ku is the Commander's ace in the hole should Storm Shadow ever betray him. Last edited by Jmacq1; 01-14-2013 at 09:28 AM.. |

I use them as techno-thief mercs, more rivals for Firefly or Zartan's usual services, but more specific to stealing prototypes of new weapons.
I use Storm-Shadow for assassination. Red Ninjas work for ?? (SS?, Firefly? Zartan?) Slice, Dice, Ninja Viper and Black Dragon are all run-of-the mill Cobra thugs. Ninja Ku is just SS wearing black. |
