Barbie probably outpaced Joe sales.

I think Hasbro kept Kenner around in the 90s due to the value of the name (by 1991, Batman, Ghostbusters, STar Wars were all major current or past hits. Kind of like how they keep the Parker Brothers name around for their board game division. Kenner was the "action figure brand")

Hasbro acquired Tonka (and by extension, Kenner) in 1991, well before any real discussions about reviving STar Wars might have taken place.

Remember around 1992, Star TREK was enjoying a pretty solid push of resurgence thanks to its 25th Anniversary (which also included events like the "retiring" of the original cast in STar Trek 6, the wrapping of The Next Generation, launch of Deep Space Nine, and a healthy novel range). I'd almost guarantee that Star Brigade was a response to THAT, not STar Wars.

Dunno the exact numbers, but in terms of major boys' toy lines and total lifetime sales, I'd imagine the rankings are:
1. Star Wars 2. Transformers 3. G.I. Joe 4. TMNT 5. Masters of the Universe I would add the caveat that it's entirely possible this ranking is incorrect (TMNT might be ahead of Joe, and I don't have a clue where Power Rangers might fit in), and my dates may well be off. I mean, I don't have any more evidence than you do so I could be totally wrong. It would just surprise me if Star Wars was the top seller for the whole decade. |

See, I wouldn't have thought Star Wars would be at the top of that list. If only because it was done by 1985 when G.I. Joe and Transformers were pretty much at their peaks. And I'm pretty sure Star Wars limped into their final year.
I mean, I don't have any more evidence than you do so I could be totally wrong. It would just surprise me if Star Wars was the top seller for the whole decade. GI Joe Transformers He Man Star Wars TMNT GI Joe I'm almost certain would be #1, just based on its longevity, it's peak, and the fact that Hasbro has credited ARAH for a lot of their success in the 80's. Also, it had at least two more years then any of those other brands, and it's real big downturn didn't come until the 90's. Star Wars was done by '85, He Man by '86, and TF was even struggling by the late 80's. TMNT only had like two years on the shelves in the 80's. |

When Star Brigade came out, there were no Star Wars toys to compete with. Star Wars had been done for years. There was basically a decade without Star wars action figures (1985-1995).

Agreed, of those five I would guess the ranking in total money made would be:
