My choice is a vehicle, because that's what honestly fueled my obsession with joe's. I never had any of the big playsets or bases, otherwise I'm sure that would be my pick. Right now I'm torn between the original VAMP or the Thunder Machine. Vamp was the 2nd joe toy I got, the first was HAL. I loved the vehicles because they were so realistic. They came with those detailed blue prints which I would stare at and study for hours. I loved how the HAL could be towed by the VAMP, and that's what really hooked me for good - realistic interaction. To put this into perspecive, the only other 'car' type toy I had was some star wars stormtooper transport vehicle (not ever shown in a movie that I know of) that had 2 doors at the front with unrealistic seats and doors, and 6 pockets (3 on each side) for you to slide toops into. When I played with this, I always hated hoe the character could not realistically enter the pocket. Coming back to JOEs, here's the VAMP where my driver could climb into the driver seat, hold on to a stearing wheel (only one hand though lol). The inside was detailed, the outside was detailed. It has gas cans and realistic labels. It had a tow hitch for the HAL. I swear the HAL was permenatly attached to the vamp for all missions. The Hal had a step ladder for the character to use to climb up into it's seat. This level of detail is what hooked me into joes.
Now earlier I mentioned the Thunder Machine, so I'll come back to that. I liked it for all the same reasons as the vamp, but I always think of it first as a favorite instead. I think that's because I loved it's sleek, bad-ass design. I loved how it was peiced together from other cars/machines. The front end had that camaro front to it, which always made me think of Knight rider (which I loved as well). The doors opened up from the top, which was my favorite part of the Back to the Future car. The jet engine on the back was just bad-ass looking. I would play with the TM and as it got damaged in battle, I could easily remove parts and peices from it with out risking too much real damage to it. For this I remember liking it the most. A close third is the Tomahawk helicopter for all the same reasons. I'd take the seats out and put my RAM motorcycle in it and have my joes do a quick landing, shoot out the back hatch on the RAM and adventure away. Vehicle to vehicle interatcion enthralled me. |

I'm going to go with figure. Firefly is the man. although I now prefer the comic three pack version of him with the new sculpted head over the original. I just remember reading the comics and just loved his persona. It was great how he always threatened to kill someone if they saw his face. That would be another one they need an unmasked comic for...unless they already have one and I somehow have missed it.

I used to use Wild Bill and the Dragonfly to drop Sneak Peek behind enemy lines, usually hidden behind some shoe boxes or couch pillows, as a forward observer for both Slip-Stream and the X-30 and the Thunderclap...nothing was more badass than loading the shells in the chamber and having the bolt come back out the breach...is that right terminology?
The Cobra Ice Viper is cool character too... |

Funny to hear others reminisce. Gi Joe was able to touch so many kids' lives and create memories and passion. I can honestly say it is one of the biggest things I miss about being a child. As little as I collect things like this it is kind of fun to pick one up now and then but nothing compared to the feeling you would get when your mom would bring one home or you would tear into one for christmas. I would have to say the killer Whale that I got for xmas was the best...like the little boy getting his red ryder. I still have it. I have sold many of my figures on ebay but couldn't quite part with that one...thanks again mom!
