Walmart announces plan to hire Vets and purchase more American made products. What are the implications for Hasbro? What will this mean for Joe at retail?

Big Lob can work in the sporting goods section, Recondo in the hunting/camping section, Doc in the pharmacy, Shipwreck in the seafood section, Clutch in automotive, Mainframe in electronics, and Snake Eyes will be the greeter. That's what it means.

Jack squat (on both accounts).
IN meeting Walmart's increasingly demanding needs and prices, pretty ALL of Hasbro's manufacturing was outsourced to China, Thailand and other Asian/Pacific countries. This is a PR move, pure and simple. And for all this "pro-American" bunk they're pushing, they are still going to demand absurdly low prices on most of their stuff and more than 95% of their store stocks will come from out of country sources. And the toy buyers at Walmart will still hate GI Joe, and only carry it at the biggest stores that actually have competition. So it won't mean a thing on "our" level.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Steevy Maximus
I means 2 things for Hasbro and Joes - Jack and Shit. They don't care about a relic of a toy franchise so much as they want to take the tarnish off their image. Walmart took a PR hit around the holidays and now they're trying to show they are a friend to the working man. To get more Joes into stores needs a multifaceted approach, starting with something to draw in kids. We bought Joes because the cartoon was on every morning. GI Joe commercials, comics. There was corporate synergy between Hasbro, Marvel and Sunbow to put out one cohesive image. Where is Hasbro's multi-media partner these days? What is GI Joe to the new consumer? Sadly it means nothing for something that means so much to us. |
