What is it about hasbro factory paint? What do they use? Their paint does not smudge or come off, almost seems like a plastic. Anyone know what their paint apps are made of?

Ancient Chinese Secret!
I'm interested to know too. If they sold it retail, I'd be more inclined to be more adventurous in customizing. Everything just becomes a sticky mess.

There used to be a guy on an old (long shut down) board I would go on who went by the name of butters stotch. he was actually a chemical engineer who specialized in plastics. He had so many great recommendations on bonding agents, proper solvents, and even developped the deyellowing methods many people in the hobby use today.
I remember him saying something about the process involving more of a chemical bonding process or "dying" of the plastic than our accrylics we use to touch them up. I'm sure if you search hard enough you can find something out there on the subject, fair chances is someone here on the tank knows more as well. Great question.

I always have wondered this myself.
Like what tool do they use to apply that Cobra logo? I figure if it were paint, it would run the risk of smearing so they must have some different method. The only time I think Hasbro used 'paint' was on the old Hiss Tank Driver and Cobra Eels with the silver Cobra logo. Those logos would rub off in nothing flat if you weren't careful with handling them. |

I was just thinking the same thing today on my way to the hobby store, mainly I wish Habro would put out paints of their flesh colors so we wouildnt have to mix them to match all the time.

When I went on the Hasbro HQ Tour during Botcon 2007, the lady who paints up the resin figures and prototypes told me they use House of Kolor paints for their toys because it is very durable and they can get any color they need.

Hmmm. I suspect she meant that's the paint they use for painting any prototypes.
Factory applied paints are probably different. I sat in at a Four Horsemen/Mattel panel at NYC comic con a couple years ago, in which someone asked them what paint they used. They stated the paints used at the Chinese factory weren't something available at retail. Of course, this came from Mattel, so I suppose Hasbro could be different, but personally I think not, given most Chinese factories sell to more than one toy company (some including both Mattel and Hasbro, from what I've heard). I would think the situation with factory-applied paint is similar. |
