I hear some guys around here say that, "I'm getting My kids started off in the right direction by giving them some Joes!". Really? If Your kid likes em' then hey, they like em', Cool, but do You really think it's getting them off in the right direction?
Q.How cool would You have been showing up to the playground with some 'Buck Rogers' or, 'Lone Ranger' or 'Flash Gordon' toys? A.Not very. The other thing I hear folks say around here a lot is "I played with Joes as a kid, and I grew up fine." Q. Did We grow up fine? A. Time will tell, it's not for Us to determine. So what are You guys A's. to My Q's.? It would be interesting to find out. |

I know I didnt grow up fine
Yet, I persevered and am not some sort of sociopath now. So all is good. But on the subject of "War" toys and chill'n's, I dont see any problem with it, and I find it disgusting that some parents shelter their kids from such things. Ive seen it too many times. And frankly keeping your kids from such things is just going to make them want that thing you kept from them more.

Time will tell, it's not for Us to determine. 1) I brought Lone Ranger and Buck Rogers figs to the playground and I was pretty damn awesome!! 2) I grew up right and I attribute at least a portion of that to the values that were portrayed in my favorite characters growing up. Autobots, G.I.Joes, and Jedi's! There is a whole generation of teenagers out there right now that grew up emulating Pokemon and Furbies! |

A. if you care about that than I say your the one with the problem. I teach my kids to lead, not follow, make decisions, not follow others blindly. Q. Did We grow up fine? A. What do you define as normal? I can only assume that your view is surely different from mine. I had a shi%* childhood with brief moments of happiness, that included playing with Joes. My kids are far better off and enjoying Joes and much as i did. I will clarify my answers with the position that i do not declare my actions as the right direction for your kids or anyone elses. frankly, i leave that to the parents to decide for themselves.

I've said it before.
Let the kids pick out the toys they want...not what we want to see them play with. Even if today's toys are ubergay.

ill have to say that i grew up fine but noticed that these days, the children are more greedier and demanding compared to when me and my friends were younger. sadly i wish i could say that the children of today were alot alike to when i was younger in the 80's. my son and daughter have alot of toys and games, they just dont seem to appreciate it and always wants more. when i buy more, they play with em for a day or two and then want more leaving those i brought recent in the trash or in a closet to build up dust. just my opinion.

I was already a teen by the time GI Joe came out, and once I got a job, I had the most Joes on the block. I still usually have more games books, CCGs, comics, etc than my other friends. I loan out stuff, so my friends think I'm ok. I am pretty high up in my company, so I'm ok there, I've been with my wife for 15 years, so, ok there too. I guess growing up and giving up the things you like is overrated.
