Hi guys,
I have to be honest I think my days of picking up joes is nearly over. I've never really been into figure collecting, and the only reason I got into 25th was to get the Snake Eyes in the original 5 pack (I was going to disgard the rest). Once I opened it, I decided I had to have the first Cobra set, and some $500 and driving all over town later I am like, enough is enough lol. To be honest I think the quality of the line is all over the place (two crappy Scrap-Iron figs has broken me). I have interest in seeing where Resolute is going, but I've kind of gotten my fill on "re-collecting" all of the old figs I used to have, and I with all of the figs Hasbro has released in the modern line, I think only about two dozen are worth keeping. They really blew it with a lot of the figs, either by design or quality. So I think my time with the series is coming to an end. What has surprised me in all this though, has been Sigma 6. I know its now dead. I dropped out of GI Joe sometime around 1990, and aside from glimps of some really crappy figs and designs from late RAH and Venom vs Valor lines, I had no idea what was going on with Joes. So when I stumbled on the 8 inch Snake Eyes, I thought it would be a cool gift for my nephew. Well, as much as he liked it, I was impressed with the reboot of the line, and even the cartoon. Before long he had just about every Sigma 6 vehicle and fig just so I could check them out myself lol. I still think 8 inches is too big, but the quality of the line blows away what we are getting from the 25th. So I recently decided to make a grab for all of the 2.5 Sigma 6 vehicles and figs that have come out just for myself, which I will probably stick in a closet and never do much with. I think some of the designs like the Dragonhawk, Firebat, Vamp, are simply amazing. I know not everyone was crazy about 'animizing' GI Joe, but I've done some research on the old cartoons on YouTube, and watched a few from when Cobra Commander was in his battle armor, and really think they are painful to watch. I don't know anything about the story to Venom vs Valor, but from what I have seen from the figures, I am not impressed with that line either. And I haven't read any comics lately aside from whats come in the Comic 2-packs, so I don't know anything about Devil's Due, etc, either. So I think Sigma 6 is one of the best lines of toys I've seen from anyone in a long time, and was wondering how you guys feel about Sigma's legacy in GI Joe. I can see the arguement that it isn't GI Joe, as it is so different from other lines, but I think even judging it as a seperate theme gives it high marks. I don't even call it GI Joe - just Sigma 6. I think it would have been awesome had they done Sigma Six in the 25th format. Its a shame it got killed. I think the concept was ahead of its time. |

It's just another line, like Valor vs. Venom, Spytroops, etc..
In the continuity it was supposed to be slightly in the future, 20 years or so. At the time of it's height, I was married and my step-son liked the Sigma Six figures. I hated 'em. I hated the look, the size of 'em, the oversized weapons and accessories. Most of all I hated the quality of the figures. They didn't look real. It wasn't the scale, it was the proportions of the figures, the weird blocky look of them. The vehicles looked cool, but that was about it. Cartoon was bad too, for the time it came out.

I have really enjoyed the Sigma 6 line, you are right the cartoon itself was horrible but the toys while large were amazingly detailed and well accessorized. I got into the S6 line very late too, I had bought the original Snake Eyes when he first came out and thought he was cool but passed on a majority of the line. Then about the tail end of the series I bought a few figures on sale and realized I was missing out on something very unique. Since then I have been able to build of a complete set of open figures, vehicles and a good portion of the 2.5 inch vehicles and figures.
I was able to find a lot of figures on cleanrce, or at cheaper stores like Ross and Marshals. To be honest I had more fun and success finding S6 figures then 25th anniversary figures at the time. The more S6 figures I bought and as the price of the 25th anniversary figures continued to climb I became a little disappointed in the depth and quality of the 25th anniversary figures compared to the S6 figs. And compared to the 12inch figures which I feel are horrible S6 have a big advantage. I know as a whole in the GI Joe collectors realm S6 was not well received but it does have a core group of fans who really enjoy them. |

Well, I'm starting to accept the fact that G.I.Joe isn't the same thing to everybody.
There are many continuities: 60's era and Adventure Team touys 80's era A Real American Hero toys 90's era A Real American Hero II toys JvC/Spy Troops/VvV/DTC toys Sigma 6 toys 25th/Modern era toys Movie toys Hama File Cards Non Hama File Cards Marvel G.I.Joe Comic Devil's Due G.I.Joe A Real American Hero Comic Devil's Due G.I.Joe America's Elite Comic Sigma 6 comic Toy comics IDW's G.I.Joe comic Sunbow G.I.Joe cartoon Dic G.I.Joe cartoon Spy Troops CG movie VvV CG movie Ninja Battles Sigma Six cartoon G.I.Joe Resolute animated shorts G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra live action movie Even within any of these categories there's things people love or hate, accept or ignore. There are fans of Sigma 6 and Joe fans that abhor it. The new movie is probably more Sigma 6 than ARAH. People are constantly making customs of Sigma 6 characters like Lt.Stone. Either way, I think it's effects will be felt for a while.

Comparing the Sigma 6 cartoon of GI Joe of the 80s, I have to go with Sig. The animation, stories, & some of the designs at the end of the RAH are horrible. Search for GI Joe DIC on YouTube and see what I mean. I can't believe that sets the standard...

I've been a huge Sigma 6 fan since day one, and I still am. At the risk of getting attacked by the majority here, I still sometimes wish Sigma 6 hadn't gone away... yeah, it really was ahead of its time, I agree 100%.

What was so special about it? I've seen the cartoons and the toys. Nothing spectacular. Nothing original.
The look of the figures.. ugh.. The proportions and shapes of the muscle... UGLY.

I liked it. I just wish the toys better matched the cartoon. The toy faces were pretty badly done by Hasbro. I think they got it right the second time when designing the characters for the toon. I just wished they had switched to better match those after.

As with the 25th anniversary line S6 had way to many dukes and snake eyes too. |
