Look each had there own good and bad stories, in Marvel I liked the Snake-Eyes unmasked when he got his new face, and the bad was when it was all those ninja stories, in DDP they had good stories like Frostbite from frontline and the bad for me was Red Shadows, but in a papercut fight the marvel run was sharper.

I like the Marvel books better. I was sold on the first story arcs alone. I went from only knowing that Snake Eyes was some mute ninja on the cartoon to realizing why everyone liked him as a commando instead of a ninja, by reading the first Marvel books! To me, he is a very interesting character, but got stretched out too much once a ton of people ended up being tied to him. As a child, Storm Shadow was my favorite character, the filecards alone crafted a neat story for me to follow, but when I got to college and read the Marvel trades, like his revelation in "Silent Interlude", oh man he was cemented in my mind as my favorite joe character from then on!
The first books intrigued me more than any other joe books. It was awesome to see Firefly introduced as some guy who's solution to everything was to blow it up, Storm Shadow as a guy on a mission(that everyone else was completely unaware of), Destro and Baroness with their own agenda, seeing the higher ups in Cobra all distrusting each other, Roadblock shooting something down at a funeral, Snake Eyes starting off as a mysterious guy always in the dark, and more! Those stories are timeless to me. Also after reading those, I don't see how anyone can picture Storm Shadow as a villain, he simply isn't! Conflicted, yes, but a true villain? Not even lose! The guy is noble and in my opinion, way more interesting than Snake Eyes. Snake Eyes is cool too but I prefer Storm Shadow much more.
Sure there things in the Marvel run that I did not like, like when Snake Eyes started showing up on covers and taking over storylines, like "Snake Eyes and Ninja Force!". Most importantly, I did not like how the series ended before Hama could finish it the way he intended(with the brainwashing of Destro, Baroness, Billy, Zartan and Storm Shadow reveresed).
With DDP I was in and out a lot. I loved Master and Apprentice vol 1. Love Steffano Caselli's artwork. Didn't like the fact that Lady Jaye was killed, and for that matter Billy, primarily the handling of the latter. It could have been better. As for storylines, the main ones I liked were America's Elite immediately, and during WWIII. WWIII was enjoyable. I liked the Storm Shadow series, just wasn't a big fan of the artwork(the 2 guest artist issues were good though). I loved the issues that Mike Zeck was brought onboard to do. That guy rules. I also liked how Kamakura was not a carbon copy of Snake Eyes. I enjoyed Mike Bear's artwork a great deal too.

Without Marvel's support of the series, there wouldn't of been GIJoe at all.
As always kids, remember the 3 M's.....
........"Make Mine Marvel" !
Now where's my no prize! LOL

As much as I loved the Marvel series... and having every issue, I really do. DDP did it better with a focus on story and characters rather than selling toys.
Marvel, for the most part did the same until later on in the series, but then it was ALL about selling the toys.
Just my humble opinion.

***self high five!!***
Let's see who get's that one, lol. "
Do you have a copy of "Positively Page" on your nightstand???
For those of you who don't follow pro wrestling, DDP also stands for Diamond Dallas Page, who was a main event guy in WCW back at the end of the 90's.

I really liked ddp run, but c'mon you can't compete with marvel's run.
Now in a few years ddp or IDW who made the better run.

I know I'm going to get shouted down, as the poll indicates, but I loved America Elite from DDP. Save the WW3 mess and DDp was great. In my book at least.

Marvel without a doubt. #14 was the first I read and I stayed with it all the way till #155. There were so many great issues but the 50's were my personal favorites, that's where it seemed like a really long wait for the next "exciting" issue.
DDP had some good issues but they mostly lacked the drama between characters. They spent too much time re-introducing icons and had to many long and drawn out battles. Still, I bought all of them so they must not have been too bad.
