My fondest christmas memory was back in 1986 when Serpentor and his air chariot made his debut. I asked Santa for that and also for the Dr.Mindbender figures.Received both of them along with the Night Raven

1985, I just turned 9 and we lived in Korea as both parents were in the military. There was only one toystore on base and the toys were about a year behind the States.
I could have been a spoiled only-child, but I had a pretty good grasp of earning things and only asking for my "fair share" of stuff. But this particular year, my father had to go back to the States during X-Mas so he bought me just about every Joe in the stores while he was there. I remember getting a HUGE box that my mom put in their closet, warning me not to go in there. When she left, I approached it like Mission: Impossible. Made it into the closet and opened the boxes. Alpine, CG, the Twins...just to name a few. I put everything back and even combed the carpet to hide any trace of my prior spying. What I didn't notice was the piece of scotch tape she put at the top of the closet door that gave me away. I didn't get punished or anything, maybe she thought because my father wasn't home for the holidays...but my FAVORITE part of the stash: My dad video taped Joe, D&D, and M.A.S.K. cartoons but I LOVED watching the GI Joe toy commercials over and over again...AND THEY WERE ALL IN ENGLISH!!! |

Don't remember some of the years or if these were Xmas or Birthday gifts, but I know the Millennium Falcon, the Skystriker, The Ewok Village, The W.H.A.L.E. and the Cobra Hydrofoil were some of the best vehicle presents I ever got. I also got that M.A.S.K. oil tanker, Outlaw in Xmas '86. That was one of my favorite toys as a kid. The Ghostbusters Ecto-1 was pretty cool to have, too!

1985 or 86... I found the WHALE, Hydrofoil and Battle Platform under the tree. Immediately after opening them up....the skirt under the tree became an island...and the battle for that piece of land lasted till the tree came down. lol
More recent memory....last Christmas, when I gave my son the custom viper pit base and custom vehicles. He knew I made it..as he watched me work on it, but I told him it was for someone else. We boxed it up when done...and he forgot about it. Then last Christmas day...that was the last box he got to open and he was very very happy...as was I, FINALLY we could play with it. lol

Well this wasn't a Joe vehicle, but here it goes. I was in foster care when I was 12. Around the middle of Oct the social worker asigned to my case came over and gave my sister and me some news. She had told us that my father was alive. My mother had told me since I was 3 or 4 that he died in a helicopter crash in Vietnam. So for years that's wht I believed. I was shocked that one my mom lied and two my dad's alive. Well we met over Halloween and we all got to reunite. That following Christmas he came by again for a visit. e know that I was into Joes and Star Wars. I didn't get that many Joes, but I got a ton of Star Wars figures. Then there was this big box. When I opened it there was the Millennium Falcon. I was so excited. Of course you'd think this story would have a happy ending...well it didn't. My sister and I went to his hotel for a visit. The social worker who took us there went in first while we waited in the car. I know he was there, but for some reason that visit never happened and that was the last time I ever saw him.

I'm a little late, but here's some pictures my parents brought me this X-Mas:
1983 Here I am with the Field Belt (Didn't even remember ever having that!) Also that year I had some generic military thing that was like the controls of a tank or airplane (I forget which) Here's the box....sorta: Then there was my Zartan....apparently I got it in 1986 (At least that's what's written on the back of the photo My biggest Joe haul was in 87 and unfortunately no one took any pictures that year (I got Tomax and Xamot, Crazylegs, Firefly, Sneak Peek, one of the paint by numbers sets and non Joe related was the Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors Saw Boss) |

Awesome pics!
Well, needless to say, I was a little douche when I was a kid. This is going to be rather winded, so if you don't like to read, move along. My parents were divorced when I was 4. By the time I was 6, I knew how to milk the system. Show me your love, buy me toys, LOL Yeah, not cool, but as mentioned, I was a little Douche (not much has changed). Well, one year, I told my Mom that I wanted a Tomahawk & a bunch of figures. She said I can only have one. I said "Dad knew you would say that, so he's getting both for me". She threw a fit, told me that when my Dad picked me up for the weekend to tell him to forget it, that she was getting both. When Dad showed up Friday to pick me up, as we were heading back to his place, I asked him "Dad, why would Mom say you're a thoughtless bastard?" He of course was shocked/pissed and asked why did she say that...I told him that she said she didn't understand why you would get my hopes up only to let me down when you don't buy me a tomahawk and figures". Needless to say, that weekend we went out and I got no figures...but TWO tomahawks. When I was dropped off at home, my Mom had also gotten me a Tomahawk, 2 BATS, General Hawk...and someone else (I forget). When she saw I had two Tomahawk boxes with me...she threw a fit...not at me, but at my dad for showboating. This is where I start "crying" and saying that they shouldn't fight, because it gives me nightmares. They send me to my room. Mission accomplished. They won't bother me for the next 2 hours (well after my bedtime) and I get to play with my new toys.... VICTORY IS MINE! |
