It is almost like some sort of therapy..
And it is fun for me because my 4 year old daughter loves to play with her SW clone wars figs (yeah.. she has figs) and have daddy bring out his toys and play.
I fly the Rattler and Firebat around and she acts like she is battling them.

I don't have battles, but I pose them and display them. if that is considered playing with them, then so be it.

I display 'em, most opened and some unopened, and have/will have dios set up for most of 'em.
It's hard, cause I look at the dios done by alot of people here and then look at what I came up with and go "this is crap" and start over.

Yeah... I can't play with them. I tried back when I was about 17 to actually 'play' with Joes again and it just didn't work. The imagination was there, I just felt like a moron. Now that I'm 34 I really, REALLY Just can't bring myself to do it.
So, I display them in my Man-cave (toy room) instead:

I pretty much have the same problem you do, We just had another baby, a boy. and I had to give up my collection room for a new babys room. I now have 3 sons, I play with the other 2, legos, star-wars, Joes, video games, everything. I started collecting Joes again because they were my favorite toy as a kid, I do have some transformers, and some He-Man, but only1 or 2 of each, mostly Joes. Now all my Joe stuff is in storage in the gargage or in my closet. I may end up buying a shelf like you did and put it in my bedroom. I really miss my collection room. I do play with them some times, but I tell myself that i am just setting up new displays, changing the guys in the vehicles or different squads stuff like that. As long as your wife is cool with it and it makes you happy I say play on man.

well i have a joe room to myself. i spend time doing repairs tightning joints and replacing o-rings. also with extra vehickle parts and figures i do trades to complete other figures and vehickles. to me it is like building models. i set up the joe side for display and a cobra side for display. the most playing i get out of joes is just posing and taking pix for the hiss tank.
also i have a killer local dallas connection for vintage toys and this guy has everything literally. i bring all my friends there . it is mainy a musem for me. some stuff is a little high priced , but this guy can fill in any gap in any toy collection

I have a toy room (or as my fiance calls it, my "nerd room") and I display some of it MOC and some of it loose. Every once in a while while I am updating it, or changing things around, a little battle breaks out, and I feel like a total nerd. That's why I do it when my fiance is not home, lol. Although it happened one time and I said I will clean it up tomorrow and she came home early. She looked at me and said: "Did you have a battle?" She shook her head and kissed me on my forehead, and mumbled, "That's my man!" Yep, I'm a pretty lucky guy. I try to be cool but.........I just love my toys, lol.
Cobra has won. The Battle is over. Or is it?

I find it funny that you bring this up just when I'm getting ready to buy a few "extras" to sort of play with.
I buy to mainly open and display, as well as customize. I have very few MOC's that I keep in a tupperware container. Space is a little bit of an issue, but I do have bookshelves and a desk at home to put stuff on.
I have gotten to the point where I wanna "play" a little. By that, i mean take off the accessories, mess with them and what-not. I had several figures growing up, and the articulation and accesories are awesome, and I think, "Oh, if only they'd had this figure when I was a kid, the backyard battles would have been so much more fun." So it kind of takes me back but also improves the experience. When I display a figure, sometimes I get a couple so I can show them with and without the accessories, because to me, you lose something by just having them sit there, fully geared up. They're not living to their full potential.
I know that maybe it seems kind of juvenile, but really, most of us men are just kids at heart. We enjoy playing video games. We like playing with our kids' toys. Even sports have an element of childishness to them that make them more fun. That's just the way we guys are. I've come to accept it, and I figure there are worse things that I could (and have) been involved with.

The only thing i do it's pose them. and then watch them a while.
I think if someone wants to play it's normal, there's nothing wrong with being a kid again for a while.
When i'm over with collecting all the joes i want (i don't pick everything just the ones i like the most) i want to make a dio an put them in and display it.

I open, play and display. sadly right now they are all in boxes as i'm getting ready to move to a new house in April so I'm trying to pack as much stuff now to make the move that much easier and hopefully less hectic.
once in the house i plan on creating a few displays and dioramas and posted lots of pics.
