Convention stuff price example: 2008 Joe Convention in Frisco, TX: $328 total which included 15 figs, box, paperwork, bonus figure, 1 yr membership into the GI Joe Collectors Club which cost about $40. Alot of money for me back then, but that was my first ever Convention stuff I have ever bought...felt really good to get them. Plan on keeping them in my collection for a very long time.

All right, this is going to be long, but I want to give all the info I can.
The hotel will be about $150 per night, including taxes. Split it up if you can by buddying up. Travel depends on whether you can/will drive or fly. From here, it will be about $225 for a round trip to KC. You can register in one of two ways.....if you want the 15-figure set, it will be about $275 (add $40 if you're not a member of the GIJCC). To attend the con without gettting the figures, it will be $75. This will still get you onto the sales floor and into all of the panels, discussion, etc. You could also just show up on Saturday and do the "general admission" thing, but all that does is get you on the showroom floor. When you get the figure set, you will also get a attendee-only freebie. It's usually a smaller vehicle, but last year it was an extra figure. Besides the figure set, you will also have the opportunity to purchase other exclusives from the con. Last year, there were four extras: $45 for Hotwire/Mech, $65 for the SWAT set, $75 for the RTV/Bullhorn, and $125 for an additional bagged figure set. During the con, there are several contests that you can participate in....including a diorama contest, a custom figure contest, a fan film contest, Joe trivia, and others. There are also roundtable/panel discussions with Hasbro execs, leaders in the customizing and collecting communities, and other Joe insiders. They also have a bulletin board up in the hotel lobby where you can post for room-to-room trading. I sold almost $1K worth of stuff from my room. All in all, I spent about $2K at last year's con, but then again I went crazy on the showroom floor (and I paid for my wife to go with me). I would bet that you could do it for less than half that if you travel smart and be careful what you spend on the floor. Finally, the con itself is cool, but the parts that you will remember forever are the times you spend simply meeting online friends and hanging out after hours, etc. with other collectors. Quote:

Ok I may have to contemplate going to this thing... However then I would have to meet some of you guys, which I probably have already as I walk past you scoping out the joes in the toy isle waiting for you to leave, prentending to shop for my nephew.
Seriously though when is this thing and where? I really should go to this due to the ammount of moolah I have spent on the 25th collection already.

Was there any 25th exclusives at the last convention? I wouldn't want any exclusive old school figures (broken thumb syndrome) or 12-inch figures.
Is it better than the SDCC?

Pyroclasm, Mutt7000 and myself are probably going to roadtrip from Central Florida to attend this year and we wouldn't do so unless it is a great time!!
Seriously, they had the convention down here in Orlando a few years ago and I went by myself and still had a blast! My favorite part was some of the custom dioramas that were on display. |
