How people spend their money is of no interest or concerns to me.

I refuse to pay so called "scalper prices" for anything new. I learned my lesson the hard way when I was collecting Star Wars figures back in the late 90's.
The first issue Bespin Luke in this area was near impossible to find for several months after his release. So I bought it at 'Frank & Son' collectable show for $25, just to find him in abundance about a month later. It happened again with Darth Maul and the Episode 1 release. Since then I will wait patiently for new figures, unless it is a truly rare variant... in which case I will buy them at either F&S or on eBay, but only after shopping around or watching several auctions to get a feel for the going price. I did, however fall for the rare wave 10 frenzy and bought them all at Kohl's at inflated prices, just to find (almost) all of them at retail shortly thereafter. I try to make myself feel better by saying at least it was Kohl's scalping and not some short, fat balding guy that works at a Hyundai dealership in San Bernardino that buys up everything and then takes it to F&S every weekend. You know who you are Troll-man. |

If we were all rich we'd just buy what we wanted when it was available and wouldn't have to worry about how much it cost.
That's what I always assumed it was. Wealthy collectors, that is. And the occasional working person who either just really, really, really wanted that particular item and/or has an impatience/impulse control issue. Some people probably do save valuable money and time paying $5-10 more per action figure than if they had to spend time hunting and competing with other collectors and scalpers. I'm fortunate that I don't have to usually go too far out of my way to find stuff, but that may not always be the case. |
