I'd make my womenfolk pose on top of it in various states of undress.

Course buying what I want has different meaning these days. I buy what the wife allows! |

I think that most didn't get one is why. In my small Alaska home town, I was the only kid I know to have one. My dad surprised me with it one Christmas, we weren't rich and I don't like to think I was spoiled, it was my only gift that year but it was more than enough and I was incredibly excited. When I went to tell my friend sand have them come over and play with it, the responses I received were generally resentful that I had what they could't have. (In my small town they didn't sell the Flagg at all, my dad had it brought up on his fishing boat.) My friends gave me shit about it for years. So I get the longing aspect (For instance, I had a Flagg, but only one Viper. In Kodiak then a figure cost 5$, and vehicles cost around 20 in 1985) and I get the wanting to have what I did as a kid, as I sold all my Joes in 1990.

If they made a scale model of the flagg, at a reasonable scale, say 1/350, would anyone buy it?

Perhaps because I could not afford to own one back then.

Probably because it was the biggest Joe base made. Probably one of the biggest playsets ever made for toys. Most of us didn't have or else we did and nostalgia kicks in. I didn't have one and I don't want one because my son has no room in his room for such a monster. But he does have the Mobile Command Center.

I agee with the OP that the Flagg is overrated. My cousin got one for Christmas one year when I was a kid. We played with it like once before it started coming apart from abuse and neglect. I have no idea what happened to it, but it was gone pretty fast, mainly because it was so huge and unmanageable.
Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but truly nothing like the "real" Flagg from the cartoon, let alone a scale model of a real aircraft carrier. I mean, you put two planes and a Tomahawk on it and the deck is full. (I always justified it as some kind of "mini" carrier kinda like the amphib. helo/Harrier carriers the Marines deploy from). But I never had a place for something like that and still don't. And I didn't miss not having one, or any of the other really big stuff (although I might have made an exception for the MCC). Oh, and yeah, I agree it's highly female repellent... |
