IN REGARDS TO SHIN-GOUKI'S THREAD:
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ar-hasbro.html IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T BUY IT. THE ONLY WAY WE AS COLLECTORS ARE GOING TO GET HASBLO TO MAKE THE FIGURES AND VEHICLES WE WANT AND NOT WHAT THEY ARE WILLING TO MAKE IS TO HIT THEM IN THE POCKET BOOKS. I SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THEIR BALANCE SHEET IS LIKE TO SEE WHAT IS SELLING. IT IS HARD TO TELL ON HISSTANK BECAUSE EVERYONE LIKES THIS OR LIKES THAT BUT THERE IS NO REAL SCIENTIFIC POLE OUT THERE. THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD REALLY POINT OUT WHAT IS SELLING IS HASBLO'S BALANCE SHEET. THAT SAID, I CHALK IT UP TO THE BIG THREE. NOW ALL 3 HAD LOST MILLIONS LAST YEAR. YET TOYOTA A MADE MONEY. WHY IS THIS? EASY. THE BIG THREE ARE MAKING CARS THAT AMERICANS AREN'T WILLING TO BUY. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I WAS AT THE MALL A COUPLE WEEKS AGO TO WASTE MONEY ON THAT CRAPPY KEANU REEVES MOVIE AND THERE WAS A FORD CAR (I HONEST FORGET THE MODEL) AND IT GOT 18 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY! THAT IS CRAP. NO ONE WILL BUY IT BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW GAS WILL GO BACK UP. IT ALREADY IS GOING BACK UP. NO ONE WANTS TO CHANGE UNLESS THEY HAVE TO. HOPEFULLY FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THE MILLIONS OF AUTOWORKERS OUT THERE, THE BIG 3 WILL RETOOL AND EVOLVE AND MAKE THE 50 MILE PER GALLON CARS WE NEED. THE JAPANESE ARE TURNING A PROFIT AND I WONDER WHY? SIMPLE, THEY ARE SELLING THEIR CARS. PEOPLE MUST LIKE WHAT THEY ARE SELLING. CHECK OUT THE OLD HONDA CRX AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT MY FRIENDS!!! I GUESS IT IS EASIER TO USE THE CAR COMPANIES AS AN EXAMPLE BECAUSE THEIR PRODUCTS ARE IN THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS SO WE WOULD BE MORE CAREFUL ON WHAT WE BUY. TOYS ARE CHEAPER SO MAYBE PEOPLE DON'T CARE AS MUCH AND JUST BUY WHATEVER COMES ALONG. I FOR ONE HAVE BECOME VERY DISCRIMINATORY ON WHAT I BUY FROM HASBLO. I WANT THEM TO MAKE KICK ASS FIGURES AND NOTHING LESS. I WANT ORIGINAL CHARACTERS LIKE A PYTHONA, AIRTIGHT, AND COL SHARP. 30 DIFFERENT REPAINTS OF DUKE AND COBRA COMMANDER WONT CUT AND I AM WILLING TO HOLD THE COARSE OF ATTRITION ON HASBLO UNTIL MY DESIRES ARE MET. I RESPECT THERE ARE THOSE OUT THERE WHO HAVE THEIR OWN DESIRES FOR WHAT THEY WANT OUT OF THIS LINEUP. HOWEVER, I THINK THIS AXIOM RINGS TRUE. IF IT IS BAD, DON'T BUY IT. MAKE HASBLO MAKE WHAT YOU WANT. THEY WON'T LISTEN UNTIL WE HIT THEM WHERE THE MONEY IS. 'IT IS THE ONLY WAY' AS OL' DARTH VADER ONCE SAID. NUFF' SAID

Well, I heard that Toyota lost money this year for the first time in like 40 years. But I get your point. I have only bought figures I've wanted, and I customize figs we don't have. I don't buy just for the sake of buying Joes. I see no point to gripe one way or another. It is what it is. I think Hasbro has been fairly responsive to our desires. But you can't please everyone all the time, and some days you can't please anyone. I don't get some of the things Hasbro does, sometimes, like the repaints and multiple versions of certain figs. I've said it before, but enough folks here on the tank have shown that Hasbro has enough parts to make some quality, sought-after figures.

Face it, kid. You're a niche market. Hasbro will occasionally throw something your way, but they don't need you. Or me. The line sells just fine the way they're operating now (which is no different than any other toymaker's modus operandi) and they're not going to change it for you. This isn't the 1980s. The market has changed. And once the movie hits, they'll need you even less.

I like how we as collectors feel as though we're actually entitled to dictate how a million dollar company with 20 some odd years of experience in the industry is run.
We're not shareholders. We're all nerds in our 30's that buy little plastic army men. Hasbro baits the hook, and we're all the fish that either bite or don't. if enough of us don't bite, Hasbro will change up it's bait and we'll have nothing. Hasbro should be catering to...y'know, children first and foremost, it being a company that makes toys and all, and then US second. as it stands, i think they've been pretty good to, We've seen a lot of characters we never thought we'd see made, and they've reached out, been pretty open and answered a lot of our questions So suck it up, buy what you like, don't buy what you don't want, and can the angry nerd rage. it only makes us look bad as a whole.

At least when they release a different version of CC or Snake Eyes, (or other) they do something different with it. Be it a repaint, or new mold, or kit bash.
They do that now because so many collectors in the past bitched about repacks. So, they do listen sometimes. It's just sad that there has been 31 of 40 versions of CC's released in the past 8 years out of 26 years. (Thats not including variants either, check the list on YoJoe!) They listened, but damn are they taken advantage of our collecting habits or what?

We are not shareholders, we are even more important....customers. And customers buying their goods are who they should cater to. AS far as GI Joe goes...it's not kids...most kids just don't give a damn or don't know about Joe. Do not be fooled people, us thirty somethings are the ONLY reason that Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man, Indiana Jones, and TMNT are still making toys today. It certainly hasn't been from any media releases for any of the subjects (Except maybe Transformers)
Indiana Jones failed to capture a young audience. Collectors weren't enough. The line failed. He-Man failed to capture a young audience. Collectors weren't enough. The line failed at mass market and is now solely available at a snail's pace release and highly inflated price due to small production runs. Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers and TMNT continue to be profitable solely through continued interest by children. They'll throw collector's a bone and a nod now and then, sure. But we are not their main demographic nor are we the driving force behind the brand's continued endurance. |

Keep running your mouth at Hasbro and when they have had enough of your bitching and complaining.. they will pack up their Joes and make something else you won't buy. Then you'll be pissed because you didn't get your Airtight, Pythona, and so on! So what if they make 30 CC's and Dukes... don't buy them. You can't really make a real good custom figure from CC anyway, but you can make a couple from Duke. Calm down.. damn. Go have some Hot Cocoa and simmer down.

Your over-inflated sense of how much the collectors contribute amuses me.
