We have Toys for Tots where I work, it is sponsered by the Marines. And I donated Joes, I donated a brand new 25th Snake Eyes '85, Pilot Scarlett, Mass Device Cobra Commander, & a Bazooka Trooper, my brother (Powered Convoy) donated 2 new Universe Transformers (Sideswipe & Acidstorm), 2 Joe DVD packs (Mass Device & The Revenge Of Cobra), a Target exclusive Crankcase & AWE Striker, & a TRU SRO Wave 1 Cobra Blue pack. So hopefully some less fortunate kids in our area will enjoy GI Joe this x-mas!! YO JOE!!

Toys R Us annoyed me with TfT this year. I went in, had fun picking out about $60 of stuff to donate, got to the register and found out they were only accepting cash donations.
The manager said it wasn't working out too well, because some chucklehead thought they'd get more donations if they gave people the option to donate in $1 or $5 increments instead of toys. Ironically, they've gotten around the same number of donations they always do, but instead of getting 3500 individual toys worth $5 or more, they've gotten 3500 $1 donations. Epic failure. Then, to top it off, the cashier was pissed off that I donated $50, and he had to key in 10 $5 donations, because they was as large as they had it set up for at that store. What a cluster. Why in the name of all that is good won't they accept your toy donations? Given that Toys For Tots is a good organization, I don't trust the concept of giving them cash right there at the register. It stinks. |

I donated $400 to the Forgotten Child toy drive my fire department participated in.
Oddly enough, I've been extremely depressed and bored this year. Haven't decorated or anything, and normally I'm CHRISTMAS GUY(tm) and go all out. So I just gave a paycheck to unfortunate kids and said "f*** it" this year. I think I'm done with this holiday.

It was really hard for me to find a drop off location and I live in LA for chr!st sakes! after doing some research I found a Pizza place around my area that had a Toys for tots drop off box. now I'm not the wealthiest person in the world but I did donate a TRU 5-pack, and a comic pack..now the only thing that worries me is that when I dropped off into the box, there was a bunch of used toys and teddy bears, I just hope it doesn't get stolen, and gets to some kid in need.

The TfT at the TRU's in my area always had 2 or 3 marines standing at the table.
It's pretty effective. Marines have the best damn dress uniforms in the world and 3 of them in full dress smiling and thanking people really brought out the donations. I don't know how everyone else does it, but I gotta say they kicked our asses in donations. Every city should have at least one store doing this.

I have heard many reports in the past that employees of the stores, as well as the people responsible for taking charge of the donation boxes are helping themselves to the toys. Taking them home or returning them to the store.
When I do donate, I take it to the source. Many Orphanages have a donation acceptance at their offices as does most shelters. Women & children shelters are most in need. When my wife was pregnant, we had to go to one of these shelters that help homeless/jobless/battered women & children to see someone about WIC, her office was located inside of it which is why we went there. While there, I looked at the section where kids are allowed to take a toy and some of the toys look like they were from the 70's. Sure a kid ain't complain about a toy, but they could have something more modern. I do NOT drop toys in a drop box as I'm skeptical of where the stuff really goes. Sometimes, you may also see a kid pick up the toy you dropped off and seeing their face light up is better than a grumpy walmart worker thanking you. |

not being sellfish, but i like to help out the local community first...we have a person at work, that is very ill, and getting ready to loose everything she owns, and doesnt help that her husband was seriously hurt at work (no fake workmans comp) so we all got together, payed some bills, and bought gifts for her 12 year old......no child should go without x-mas....now its time to give to T-f-T |

I gave some of my Valor vs Venoms to TRU TFT this year, some stuffed animals I won at Six Flags and when I was a child my entire collection of Transformers and G.I. Joes were given to TFT. That was a merry Christmas for some kids I guess.

I bought some kind of Bakugan thing and donated it right before Thanksgiving. I think it was called a Draconid or something like that. I don't really know what Bakugan is, but it seems pretty popluar, because whenever I was searching for Joes, I'd nearly always see some kid come into the aisle telling his parents he wanted Bakugan. The TRU in my area had an actual jarhead there with a big box at that time, which is what reminded me to do it. But come to think of it, I haven't seen them back since.

I donated this Christmas to Toys for Tots. My son and I play GI Joe all the time. We have just about everything that has come out so far plus we have lots and lots of Batman toys. I can't play with my son during this Holiday season with all our many toys, (probably much more than your average kid has) and not donate to some unfortunate child who would otherwise get nothing come Christmas morning.
It's easy to forget sitting in our warm cozy homes playing with our toys that there are kids out there with almost nothing. I can't help but think of orphans in orphanages that have no family to share the holidays with. And then to have them wake up Christmas morning to nothing is just a terrible heart breaking thought. |
