I am pretty much if I see it I like it, then I will buy it. I try not to over do it on spending, by limiting myself to army building troops. Bills always come first, and I never take money away from my family for toys. To be honest, I am kind of at a place where I consider myself semi-retired from collecting. There are still a few Joe figures I want next year, and a couple of the vehicles. But for the most part I am done going all out crazy collecting.

both my wife and I have budgeted $125 a month. But that isn't just for collecting, that is all of my "fun" money. It includes basketball tournaments, videogames, eating out, etc. But since I only buy 2 or 3 games a year and don't eat out much, I probably spend $90-100 a month on collecting.
Fortunately with the 6" DC line pretty much ending, GI Joe being on hiatus, and only like two new star wars figures I am trying to find, I was able to order one FSS |

I just try to keep it under control some what. This year I bought single carded Roadblock to use the body on my Sergeant Slaughter and I bought the three pack with Roadblock in it for the hands. Then I bought the seven packs, three of each, two for me and the others for my two boys. I got the red Jinx, the Crimson Guard from SideShow, and I have the Baroness and Snake Eyes with Timber from SideShow coming. And a few Retaliation and Renegades G.I.Joes I've bought at retail for my kids. That should be all my G.I.Joe spending for this year. I don't know how much that would be, as long as I can pay the bills and put food on the table I think it will be alright.

$100 at the end of each month if I really want a specific figure, not just for the sake of acquiring one. Thank goodness there's scarcity of red ninjas and Joe troopers from where I am. If not, I'll be in trouble.

I used to spend pretty much what I wanted, a couple hundred a month on average. But I have really tapered it off. I am trying to keep it under $50 a month now. I dont have much I am looking for anyway, so if I take my time and spread it out I can do that. And stop browsing ebay, damn ebay.

No set budget, but I generally spend 200-400 a month, unless I buy a big ticket item.

My wife and I have a very strict budget. We both have “extra” money worked in. $30/week is what we are both allowed to spend on ourselves. If there is something we want that costs more, we save up. My wife is an accountant so she is very strict about the budget. I can’t complain though, I have no money management skills at all. Anyway, with the shortage of product at retail, she showed me where I had saved enough to get the FSS.

My budget is a portion my profit from ebay sales is becomes my collecting money.
I usually make about 600 a month off ebay after taxes and fees. About a quarter of this goes towards saving for my kids school tuitions. About a quarter of it is to our family vacation account. Another quarter goes to future deals and growing the business. The rest goes into funny money pots for my wife and I. I use most of my funny money for collecting and going to LSU sporting events. Sometimes I get a big lot that I sell most of for a profit and keep the rest. That is how I got my Thundercats Toungasuarus for free without dipping into my own funny money. That is called the jackpot or scoring juice in my house. |
