As much as I hate to admit it I like the me vehicles over the old school ones. The durability of the new ones compared to the old ones is a no brainer but as a adult collector I can deal with that aspect.

For the sake of this list, I'm keeping the Flagg off due to unfair competition.
10.Dragonfly The thing I love about this is the spinning action, most toy helicopters today have a horrible thumb spinner which requires constant movement. However a single push of the XH-1 was enough to keeping going for a good while. Unfortunately the rotors are easy to break, preventing this of being a more likable toy for me. 9.Stinger/VAMP II I always had a huge problem with the original VAMP not having doors, it felt too exposed. That would be fine for a desert vehicle, but odd for operating open terrain. The VAMP 2 and Stinger solved this problem and added an upgrade in weapons. 8. Silver Mirage. I think the SM was result of someone saying"You know the Ram? Lets make that, only more badass." It's funny how something a simple as a side-cart can make what is really just a reimagining of the RAM become interesting to play with. 7.Cobra Bugg. I love this because despite it's gaudy colors, the Bugg was an wonderful oddity. We've had tons of boats, Jets, tanks, Copters. But land submarines weren't exactly common. 6.Mauler M.B.T. Quite an upgrade from the MOBAT. The overall design was more narrow and sharp, it could hold more figures, the motor was more powerful, and the figures didn't stick out like a sore thumb. 5.Night Raven. If there is one thing the playability of the Night Raven has, it's the lack of a Joe equivalent vehicle. There is little to counteract a NR. The drone, while nice and offering a way of adding weapons, doesn't really do much for me. However despite the minor short comings, the vehicle is incredible and in many ways the fact the Joes have no way of stopping or even counteracting the NR is terrifying. 4.Rolling Thunder. This damn thing has missiles and guns in every damn direction, and if that wasn't enough, you've got a giant freaking canon plus two gigantic missiles that in turn have even more missiles inside. This thing would scare the crap out of Cobra. I admit, realistically this thing probably could be taken out easily with all the exposed rockets, but dammit this thing was fun. 3.Tomahawk. By far my favorite helicopter. The amount of figures able to be stored was and still is amazing. Being a Helicopter to weren't just limited to just the sea and smooth terrain like the Whale was. The cargo hook like the XH-1, the mounted guns, the size of the toy. Just fantastic. 2.HISS II Really this get everything right about the classic hiss look and function. In today's world it's bit outdated, but the troop carrying ability is still one that I love. I would love to see a re-release of this perhaps as a HISS light Tank. 1.Rattler. I know this is not the best Vehicle made, nor is it the most amazing or unique, and yet, I love it. I didn't grow up with the toy in 84, I didn't even highly desire the toy with a deep passion. But looking the Rattler and its odd A-10 style shape, the WWII like bubble turret, the strange look of the 3 Jet engines, the VTOL. Everything about the toy made my mind boggle. I think around the time I seen the Rattler I started working it in that Cobra would study Transformers technology and add it to existing vehicles to improve them. That lead to a whole slew of stories involving Cobra and Joe fighting over the tech. Cobra would build B.A.T.s from it, Joe would build primitive lasers. All that came just from a single vehicle, and anything that can spark an imagination like that has to be at the top of my list.

10. DEMON. A strange, ridiculous vehicle, but the image of it rolling along reminds me of some evil castle rolling into town. It uses the IG color scheme which is great. And its armament and three-seat cockpit are impressive.
9. APC. Terrific cockpit detailing, and the back is roomy enough for the whole team to hang out. Also one of the few vehicles with actual windows. 8. Persuader. The GI Joe HISS. Love all the foot pegs on the side and the simplicity of the design. Silver and army green is always a great look. 7. BUGG. It counts cos it has wheels. It has a TMNT vibe, but with Deep Demons coming out of it and the Secto-Viper driving it I can take it seriously. 6. Rage. Great color scheme, endless room and tons of play features. It looks like one of Bane's Tumblers, but cooler. 5. HISS II. The slide-out seating in the back is perfect. Amazing that they crammed so much usable space into the HISS without making it much bigger. Enhanced armament is welcome and the red windscreen looks rad. 4. Rolling Thunder. Those missiles are so huge I start to worry about mutually-assured destruction. But the thing is so teeming with defenses, you could put a dozen figures on it to fend off Cobras that don't want to be nuked. 3. HISS. A tank the size and shape of a brick is a great idea. High-speed sentry is right. Lovely cockpit shape and tread design too. 2. Mobile Command Center. A dollhouse for dudes. The clear screen in the briefing room and all the usable interior and exterior space, plus the fact that it transforms, mean it never gets old. 1. Snow Cat. The entire vehicle, except the inside under the truck bed, can interact with figures in interesting ways. It's the perfect size and its missiles don't fall off easily. It has lots of foot pegs. Most of all it's a perfect blend of sci-fi and realism, neither boring nor too far-out. |
