The debate for this week will focus on whether or not you would buy Hasbro's 12" G.I. Joe figures w/more stuff added.
Our question of the week:Would you buy Hasbro's 12" G.I. Joe figures if they had more articulation, more clothing, and more accessories? For further clarification, this is not a debate about Sideshow's upcoming figures, this is about Hasbro's 12" joe figures. A few of us here collect the 12" joes that Hasbro currently has on shelves, however the majority of us do not. I usually see a good number on shelves but it is obvious that they are selling as the stock is replenished with different characters quite often(Snake Eyes, Dusty, the Cobra Trooper and Torpedo have sold the best in my area). The figures in the current line use the basic joe body that Hasbro used a few years ago. This has full articulation, but lacks "super" articulation, as in having double jointed elbows/knees, thigh/bicep swivel, ab joints, et al, which are a standard on their competitor's(BBI/PTE) cheaper figures. Not the collector's edition BBI figures but the BBI 12" figures that TRU sold not too long ago. Even the Power Team Elite 12" figures have more articulation, accessories, and clothing for a cheaper price. The super articulated joe body that Hasbro made was typically seen on the boxed 12" $19.99 figures, and usually just for their non-RAH line. The current $14.99 12" G.I. Joe typically consists of either a cloth shirt, or pair of pants, weapons/accessories, and a body with regular articulation(ball joint head, ball shoulders, ball elbows, ball wrists, waist swivel, ball hips, ball knees, ball ankles). The articulation is lacking compared to their competitor's(except for The Corps!), and the one piece clothing standard only works with figures such as Duke, or Beachhead, not much else. I am willing to pay $20 for a Hasbro joe considering it has the super articulated body that they used on past $20 12" joes and even the recent Indiana Jones boxed 12" Cairo Swordsman and German Officer. Super articulation consists of -Ball joint head -neck swivel -ab joint -waist swivel -ball joint shoulders -bicep swivel -double joint elbows -ball joint wrists -ball joint hips -thigh swivel -double joint knees -ball joint ankles Now if Hasbro made a 12" joe with that kind of articulation, more clothing, and more weapons and accessories, I would pay $20 if the figure turned out well. Adding even just one more piece of clothing to the existing 12" figures makes a world of a difference. Imagine if the current 12" Storm Shadow had come with a gi top, like the RAH v2 figure, with a hood. Or imagine the current 12" Snake Eyes, but instead of a molded on sweater, actually coming with a cloth sweater. These figures have awkward proportions when sculpted clothing is involved. Now imagine adding more articulation, and more stuff in general. I'd buy it, would you?

They almost got me with that TRU 12" three pack.
Then, I thought better of it.

I collect 12 inch figures of all types. For $20, I'd say no. Because, as you've said PTE offers a better figure for even LESS. Hasbro has to keep the current price and up the quality.
With a little bit of effort (a shirt or accessory) by customizing you get very close to an accurate looking joe. Why Hasbro cannot do the same is beyond reason!!! They should be shamed into embarrassment. Hasbro get a clue. Their half assed attempts is not working. Maybe they should go all plastic like the 12 inch Marvel Icons. Anyone interested? |

I wouldn't even pay $120 for the Sideshows, let alone the ones selling for $15 at Wally and Target. To me, these things looks like crap!! They have no appeal to me nor does it have a drop of nostalgia in them.
However, if the 12" was made strictly based off the 3 3/4" line, then maybe? |

Even though the original G.I. Joe was 12", I grew up and collect The Real American Hero and now the 25th Modern Line. So to answer your question, if it isn't 3.75-4" it's not G.I. Joe

They would have to be fully clothed. The plastic shirts look strange. They would also have to have accurate weapons or accurate future weapons.

i would say yes but i want unique cloths & weapons. not the same crap from yrs ago just repacked again at a new higher price point (ala the crap on pegs now). i think the current articulation is fine, i rather have them fix the outfits, molds in general, & the weapons (here is a perfect example of the stupid crap hasbro pulls with the current line; cobra commander with ninja sword, wtf!).

The only thing that could make me buy one would be to realse a charecter so unexpected I would be compelled to buy it. If a Zarana, or say Pale Peony hit the shelves i wouldn't be able to resist.
But as it stands I only own Kamakura, and that is the only one i want to own |

I wouldn't buy the 12 inch at any price point. They're just not my cup of tea.
