I spoke to a REAL HASBRO REP not customer service operator. And the REP said that due to overwhelming demand, the now deemed MODERN ERA CARTOON line is being re-evaluated to appease t come up on the computer like all the other stock. But for whatever reason they do not at her store. She does not know why, and the screw up is on Hasbro's end for not getting them the info to put consistently into the system. |

Well, I don't mean to change the mood here but I don't think this news is what it may appear to be on the surface. First, I believe the modern line is selling better than Hasbro expected, yeah I know that's not news to anyone here. I mean they were surprised be the success of the 25th line but I think they were caught off guard by the continued growth that seems to be happening this year. So yes, it's good news that production is being increased and it's going to easier for retailers to stock the line, but let's not read too much into this. Keep in mind Hasbro is now starting to take GI Joe more seriously with the movie coming out. The problem as I see it, is the movie toys will be the main focus. I'd be surprised if the cartoon line continues as rep said (movie and cartoon mixed cases). This could mean the existing figures will be shipped with the movie line, not new cartoon figures. As we know the release of a new movie doesn't mean squat as far as actually selling toys, look at Hulk and Indy. I just hope Hasbro figured this out too and will continue the cartoon line during the movie push as the rep lead us to believe.
Now, I have no idea have retail works but I don't see a problem with shortage of product on the shelves, at least in my area. The problem is with peg warmers! So when WalMart buys 30 cases they sell all of the good figures and can't move the Wild Bill, JP Duke and Spirit figs, there's 90 dog figures that aren't going to sell and the pegs are full of them. I know Hasbro can't release every figure we want all at once because that's a great way to kill the line. But they have to stop flooding the shelves with crap figures. Stop filling cases 1:1 with junk figs with the ones that are going to be the hot sellers. Having more retailers carrying the line will help, not so much in my area because I don't know who would start selling they that isn't already. So until we find a way to keep the pegs cool by moving the product continuously we won't get the new waves on the shelf. |
