I am so sick and tired of Hasbro using the excuse that star wars has a bigger fanbase than GI Joe thats why they get all the extras.
That simply is not true. GI joe has been around for 44 years in one form or another ( except for a 4 year hiadus ) longer than any other action figure. Star wars was a movie that had action figures. The only reason the star wars action figures made a come back in the mid 90s after being canceled in the 80s is because they made 3 more star wars movies. GI Joe will be 45 years old when its first movie comes out. How long do you think the star wars toy line would have lasted if they never had a movie. Two years maybe three tops. When Hasbro stoped making GI Joe in the late 70s we all turned to star wars to fill the void. But when they re-introduced GI joe in 1982 we collecters droped star wars and welcomed Joe back with open arms. Kenner canceled the star wars line soon after due to the drop in sales. Some may argue that the success of joe was only due to the cartoon but the cartoon was not introduced untill 1984. The toy line was already a huge success when the comics and cartoon were released. I feel that GI Joe has a much bigger, stronger and more loyal fan base than any other action figure line out there. So Hasbro needs to stop using that as an excuse for giving star wars all the large vehicles(the falcon for $150), Playsets, troop builders & accesories packs and leaving joe without. We want the larger playsets, vehicles, troopbuilders and accessorie packs to!!!!!! |

Oh boy... and here we ..........................GO! Star Wars folks vs the GI Joe Brigade. This thread my get heated once it's all said and done. I am the Joe fanatic. I will support the late 70's and 80's figures and stuff from the Star Wars franchise. But Lucas bringing it all back in the 90's and then making those crummy Star Wars flicks Episodes 1, 2, and 3.... totally struck out in my personal opinion. But don't compare the Fan Bases... the Joes are so out-numbered it's pathetic.

Yah, Old Joes are a tradition among toys.
But you forgot about a detail: a big, coloured US flag on the name While GiJoe toys have been in the market for decades, they're not worldwide "accepted", while StarWars can be sold to anyone. Even my father likes the Star Wars toys, while the Joes meant nothing to him (what's more, my mom didn't want to buy Joes when i was a kid, cos she didn't agree with "military" toys). Personally, i love both. They're completely different, so i don't have problems to choose a side. But no Star Trek for me, thanks. :P Last edited by M_renegade; 12-02-2008 at 09:20 PM.. |

If the movie was going to be better, that would probably swing things in our favor.
I really hope that somehow we all end up pleasantly surprised. There are too many threads on that subject already. Back on topic. If there really are that many more SW fans, then someone please ask them to start buying all those stupid ass non-articulated toys that are clogging the shelves so that there will be more room for GI Joe toys. GI Joe would definitely outsell SW if Hasbro could keep enough product out there for us to buy. Large vehicles and playsets for the best selling toy line going. What a novel concept. Well Hasbro? OK rant over. Thanks.

I think Hasbro produced WAAAAAYYYY over their means on Star Wars stuff. Whenever the Clone Wars movei came out and the toys went on sale... I was out looking for the first DVD packs. I think it was in July. We got to target at 8:00am and we got to the Joe aisle and it was filled with about 20 people waiting for Star Wars. And then they followed each other all around Waco trying to find any and everything they could Buy N Scalp or collect. If that day says anything about ratio ... its 20 Star Wars Peeps to 2 Joe collectors.

Tons more SW collectors out there, but unfortunately the SW crap still clogs up the toy aisles around here.

joes warm 3-6 pegs with a reload once a month or so, sw warms 20 or more pegs with a reload once a month or so. throw in movies, books, comic books, video games, animated dvds and tv shows, monthly mag, statues....the fan base is huge and insatiable. they even want mighty mugs.
