Hi,
I bought a joe item from ebay tonight, being this is my first time doing it, i forgot to add funds to my paypal account when i paid for the item . i do however have my paypal linked up to my bank account, so will the money come from my bank account directly or can you only use paypal if you actually transfered funds from your bank into your paypal account? any help would be appreciated! |

It'll come out of your bank account as long as you added the account to your PayPal account.
What does it say when you log onto PayPal? It should say where the funds are coming from.

Yeah it will come directly from your bank account. Be careful though, too many transfers from your account in a month and you get slapped with some Federal penalty (at least I did). So as long as the funds are available in your bank account (that is "linked" to your PayPal account) you are fine.

WildWeasel... that only applies to savings accounts/money markets which by federal definition is a "non-transaction-based" account, and they limit you to 6 transactions per 30 days... including things like PayPal, direct or electronic debits or credits, online transfers, etc. If it pulls from a free checking account, there's no limit.

Oh I hate that! The only reason I have my bank account hooked to Paypal is for withdrawing money into my bank not out!
I always choose use a credit card for any Paypal transactions if I do not have a balance. It really annoys me that they have it setup so that it always comes from your bank account.

Hopefully by the time I'm 40 I will have learned how to manage a budget. Last edited by The Fridge; 12-12-2007 at 02:13 AM.. |

If you have a credit card on file, you can do an instant transfer from your checking account. Should your checking account not have enough to cover your purchase, the credit card serves as a backup source for the money, and your seller gets paid immediately.
And for those of you who want to use a credit card when shopping, you simply have to select it on the payment page. |

Honestly, I recommend using a credit card for your purchases, especially the PayPal Buyer Credit or an eBay MasterCard, both of which offer extra layers of protection on all of your purchases, even beyond what you would get from the banks that issued your current cards. As long as you pay off what you spend every month, rather than running up a pile of debt, it won't be an inconvenience for you. If you have an account that offers rewards points for purchases, all the better!
