(Link to Part 2: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ml#post3828960)
I've been doing some work on a set of more realistic "file cards" starting with the original Joe crew. These are structured off of some of my actual orders for reassignment/change of station when I was still in the Army. But since these are lacking any colorful background information, I added my own configuration using the following details: CODE NAME BRANCH PAY GRADE FILE NAME DATE OF BIRTH BIRTHPLACE SSN PRIMARY MILITARY SPECIALTY SECONDARY MILITARY SPECIALTY ADDITIONAL SKILLS IDENTIFIER SPECIAL SKILLS IDENTIFIER ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES TRAINING HISTORY OPERATIONAL HISTORY MEDALS AND COMMENDATIONS PERSONNEL EVALUATION NOTES (This is the end blurb taken from the original file cards) But it occured to me while putting these together that the original team that we received in 1982 must have been operational for several years before this period, probably as far back as 1980. When the team first assembled, Snake Eyes' only disfiguring injuries were those sustained while on LRRP in Vietnam, and were superficial and minimal. The incident that permanently disfigured him and his voice, as well as forcing him to wear his trademark mask, happened on a mission before Marvel's #1 issue, as detailed in the Devils Due Declassified series. So, with this in mind, I never realized that the file cards that came with the figures were an actual evaluation of their capabilities prior to being on the G.I. Joe team. Does anyone else see it this way? Keep in mind that I follow most of what Hama wrote for the file cards and the Marvel series, as well as anything he's done since then to expand upon his original work. Any other incarnations (Adventure Team, Sunbow/DIC cartoons, Sgt. Savage, Extreme, Sigma 6, ROC, Resolute or Renegades) may offer something new to introduce into the realm of ARAH, but is not canon to my view of the Joe-verse.

Anyway, once I'm finished with the first batch (OG13 + Shooter), I was thinking of doing up an Intelligence dossier on the Cobra forces before getting into the 1983 Joes.
I've taken some personal creative liberties, such as giving Snake Eyes a name and place of birth, and giving everyone actual birth dates. I tweaked the ranks of some of the Joes - I don't think a unit as elite as G.I. Joe is would enlist from E-4 and below. But before 1985, the Specialist rank did go up to Spec 6, so I placed Breaker, Flash and Clutch at those pay grades. I also decided to make Grand Slam an O-2 First Lieutenant. It seems to me the team should have another officer in the field, and since there is hardly any background info at all on this character, I promoted him. My working knowledge of military history, particularly the late '70's and early '80's isn't the greatest, so there will be to some what will be obviously glaring factual errors. Once I get up my file cards with PART 2 in the next few days, let me know what corrections I should consider making.

One of the hardest things to figure out is when a certain MOS was created, or discontinued, and where the training was held. There's a lot of changes in all areas of the military throughout the years, and no one-stop source of accurate information on the internet that I can find.

Can't wait to see it. You certain ly have a good model for filecard structure.

Fixed whatever screw-up blanked out my original posts on Part 2. Does anyone have any ideas/examples of what a DOD dossier on wanted war criminals should look like? I want to start working on the Cobra forces soon, but I have no idea where to begin. I'll have to do some digging around the net when I have a chance. And the last four '82 Joes should be up soon.
