My wife and I were driving back home when she asked me this question and to tell you the truth I really didn't know or I really didn't want to tell her why. So I want to know if any of your wife's, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends or friends who don't collect have ever asked you this question. What was your answer to them and what was their reaction to it?
I love collecting them and it's fun for me to hunt these figures down. It brings the kid out of me even now at the age of 37. My wife doesn't believe me that there are many like me out there. So here is her chance to see for herself that there is a lot of us out there. So can you guys help a fellow Joe collector out here.... Thankz |

I know the feeling.... I have had lots of my friends ask me.
I like the fixing something that is broke, making a custom (I was a avid model car builder), and just having that like cheesy feeling of excitement when the mail comes with parts of a figure. I'm only really into ARAH, so I dont feel the excitement of the hunt...

I just told them that its a hobby better this then out sitting in a bar or something like that! i also told them that i would rather spend my money on something i enjoy rather then waste it on something stupid! Both understand my buys candle like a no other so i say nothing about it she say nothing about mine works for me...

I do it for the fun and the nostalgia. I grew up on GI Joe, and saw these guys as a fun group of badasses. There was something super-heroic about them, despite them being just regular guys.

There's definitely the nostalgia factor for me. Also, they just have that magic, every time I look over at my army, I just get that "warm fuzzy" feeling, and I think, "Damn, those are awesome." Plus, it gives me something to look forward to, to be excited about. E.G. I'm waiting on my Ninja Battles stage (not the figures, eff them, they suck) and my 25th BAT.

I ask myself the same question all of the time. It is a break from everything that is not going well. Something small and inexpensive that brings a lot of fun.
A psychiatrist might say I am trying to go back to a time in my life that I remember as stressfree and exciting. Also, I was always allowed to pick out just one. It is nice to be able to get em' all!! |

In February 8th 2008 I was looking for some staff in MercadoLibre (argentinian eBay) and I came across three figures: Stalker, Cobra Red Ninja and Zartan, I remember having Stalker and Cobra Red Ninja (Cobra Satan here in Argentina) as a child so my curiosity about this updates was unstoppable and that I could’t resist buying them. Also seeing that packages brought me some many memories that it was like been a kid again. Today I have more than 160 items (figures + vehicles) and I really love them.
This first part was only an introduction but I think I love collecting Joes because they remind me beautiful moments of my childhood, memories about easier times with no responsibilities, but don’t get me wrong because growing up has lots of good things and I also enjoy been an adult and a more mature person, but this little escape to childhood is simply beautiful. Another thing that made me want to start collecting was the fact that I could’t get most of the important characters as a kid here in Argentina because they weren’t available (Duke, Cobra Commander, Gung-Ho, Roadblock and many others). By the way, I’m not going to stop until I have most of the figures and vehicles from 1982 to 1989.

That's also why this site is great, we can all brag to each other about our finds, I think that brings it full circle for me. I mean, my wife supports and understands it, and she's glad it makes me happy, but she isn't INTO it.
