My GF doesn't mind me collecting Joes and Transformers. As long as my collection doesn't outgrow my space. But doesn''t really understand.
I only collect the 25th/Modern Era line; although I got 1 stage for my vintage-stuff, which isn't much. Mainly because of nostalgia. I've been a collector all my life; it's what I like. Like those birds that like shiny things for their nests, I am like one of them. Shiny... ooooh! ;-) I know, Joes aren't, but shiny can mean a lot of things... posability, paint jobs, you name it. I'll have to stick with miniature Ferrari's, Joes and Transformers by now. But when I move to the attick... who knows... I have to restrain myself for not getting Diamon Select Star Trek figures... Tha pain!!! LOL Later dudes! |

My wife just hates the space it takes up... I try to keep everything in either my room or my design studio. But occasionally things spill over.

my wife thinks im the only adult in the world into it.she thinks im competing with kids. she saw me and a fellow tanker talk joes the whole time like if we were debating sports.
i get a kick out of it.it is a stress reliever.an adrenalyn for hunt. its the feeling i get when i go skate.but since im getting older, skating tires me out fast so joes my alternative.

I'm lucky my best friend is such a nerd. He came over one time after I started collecting and when he saw the coffee table of Armaggedon he pretty much had a geekgasm. When his girl called him (his cell phone is like a leash), he told her he was at his friend's house playing with his G.I. Joes.
"No... no sweety, we're not making the little 'pew pew' sounds with our mouths, it's not like that!" (laughing). Me? I only ever had the BAT when I was younger, and I always regretted that my family growing up never gave me an allowence, or sprung for Joes unless it was my B-day or Christmas, so I guess I'm making up for lost time. |

Definitely the nostalgia factor! Like most of you, I'm sure my wife doesn't quite get it either. She's not against it and she'll even check for me when she's at a Target by herself, but she gets annoyed with the space it takes up and the fact that I think every room looks a little better if there is a small joe battle going on in there...haha

My fiancee' encourages me, though I suppose she's most concerned about space and cost. She doesn't really understand why old toys cost so much... and maybe she's got a point, but things are only worth what people are willing to pay.
I love G.I. Joe. They fight terrorism - is there anything more American in light of 9/11? I've loved them since I was a kid; I grew up an Army Brat so I suppose the military/organizational aspect of G.I. Joe has always appealed to me. My job is like other jobs: there's a lot I have to deal with that I have very little control over. We all have to put up with that to some extent, I suppose. I love G.I. Joe because at the end of the day, I can exercise some control over a highly trained special mission force, and go kick the crap out of some bad guys. It's the same as when I was a kid - it's a little escapism into a semi-realistic world with problems that matter, where good and bad are clearly defined, and where you have the authority and ability to do what needs to be done to solve an important problem. I beats the heck out of drinking or drugs, and I find that in talking with other Joe Collectors, I find a lot of friends with whom I have a great deal in common. Old school Joe fans are very often like me, and I get along with them pretty well. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Have your wife call me if she still doesn't belive that the 80's kids are collecting these little green men.
Luckily for me, I don't have to answer up to no one as to why I love the Joes! |
