Gentlemen, in as much as I have very firm convictions and beliefs about Jesus of Nazareth as a historical figure and the focal point of my own religious beliefs, we should cease this line of discussion immediately. I'm disappointed, but not surprised that a Mod hasn't already said something about it.
I'm sure some people do think Jesus is a "fictional" character, and while that is certainly their right, referring to Jesus as "fictional" comes across as HIGHLY offensive to those who do believe in Jesus Christ as an actual person and living Lord. Not only is it offensive to believers, it crosses the boundaries of the forum's rules on religious discussion... though the rules seem to be consistently enforced in favor of a more Progressive/anti-religious agenda. From a strictly historical point of view, Jesus has no qualifications to join the G.I. Joe team. He has no military experience, he lived 2000 years ago, and he claimed to be a monarch. Thus, Jesus would have no appreciation for, or interest in, defending a democracy such as that of the U.S. It's utterly ridiculous to think of Jesus of Nazareth as a member of the Joe Team. The suggestion of Jesus to be represented as an action figure for the G.I. Joe Team is problematic for both sides. First, it would be a stupid and offensive suggestion on the part of any intelligent atheist, and second, it would be a blasphemous misunderstanding of Christ's life and mission on the part of any sincere believer. I would hope that none of us here would resort to such base motives as stupidity, ignorance, blasphemy or religious insensitivity/intolerance. Let's all do each other a favor and leave Jesus out of this thread. Thanks.

Thanks, Buddy... "Blessed are the Peacemakers", right?
As they used to say on the Cartoon show, "And now back to G.I. Joe!"

What about John Wayne from "The Green Berets" ?
He was great. Who wouldn't want an action figure of the REAL Duke?

I think that Daniel Craig's Bond would fit in better with the Joe team then Connerys. It's like they are almost two different people. Craig's is the closest to Ian Fleming's novels too. Craig-Bond would be a frontliner and ops operative with Claymore and Falcon. Connery-Bond would be an ops operative with Chuckles and Lady Jaye.
Some of the suggestions are fantasy. Joe, although it had fantasy elements, was based in reality. 90% of it was real-world technology and means and methods. People like Deadpool, though cool, wouldn't fit. If that was the case, let's just say Wolverine and call it a day. I was hoping for some guys that would fit in just as the Joes are now. The unit from Tears of the Sun, Dutch's unit from Predator (taking out the Predator of course), Rambo, Martin Riggs, Scot Harvath, John Rain, Bob Lee Swagger, Bond, John Wayne from Green Beret, Bernett from Behind Enemy Lines, Jason Bourne, all those are good candidates. Sam Fisher, Solid Snake are good ones as well.

If I recall correctly, I had posted a thread like this on the first week I signed up here... Good memories. Anyhow, here were my suggestions...
Steve Rogers... Captain America himself. You need a leader with a more gung-ho attitude than Duke? Done. Someone who will inspire the troops more than Hawk. Check. Someone who you would call confident, not arrogant, a la Flint? Guy's middle name is confidence. He's the greatest American hero, and he has nop super powers, and the super soldier serum is just as believable as a buff former dentist creating a clone of former dictators. Leon S Kennedy- Every now and then, Cobra comes up with some freaky sh*t, and Leon would be perfect for the job. I'd say Boba Fett, but that's mostly so I can have a team with SE and BF on it... "Specila Agent" Bruce Wayne- Yeah, you'd have to switch around his origin and all, but he'd make one HELL of a Joe. |
