I sell and I've eat the extra shipping every time. I only offer parcel post now unless priority is requested. I simply weigh the figure at home and calculate.
The post office is just overcharging IMO. I just mailed a package today to CA and for parcel it was $7.10 it only weighed 1 lb. 4 oz. I think it's robbery. Priority would have been 15 to 20 dollars for the same item. I believe what ever service you offer you should stick to. Was he a new seller? Maybe he/she is just a noob but if I had a skystriker for sell I would just know it would have been more than the price stated. Hopefully they will learn.........future customers will find out;>) |

So.... let's say that you bought a gift for a friend. His birthday is in 2 days, so you put the shipping for 2nd Day shipping for a 50lb tub of GiJoes.
The seller, mis-calculates the shipping... keeps the extra money that you gave for the express shipping, ships it Parcel Post, so you'll get it in a week or two. ... and you're ok with this? |

It is always best to overprice shipping (of course if you don't know what it might be around then you got some homewrok to do) that way you can always refund the difference, and they can't say squat to you because the ship price is what it was when they bid on the item.
I used to package and weigh, but then people started to buy multiples and that jacks everything up. Also international bidders I usually CAN'T stand, because they expect large boxes go for the prices of a comic or something ridiculous. I shipped two large vehicles to china, first saying I will do my best to get a decent price, and told about how I can get a discount from fedex that is "sometimes" cheaper than usps, well fedex was more and usps ended up being around $60, man was he pissed, I saved over $140 from fedex, and gave the other option for usps, but wasn't good enough, finally I gave him the quote to ship in a smaller box with NO packaging, because I would have to shave off 6" for being too big, of course he took it, but I thought he would be one of those asses that will leave negative because it arrived damaged or something, I ate the costs and paid for express, which was only about $9 more anyways. I don't ship internationally anymore, unless THEY work with me, and not demand more than what I can give. |

oh, I got another story.
I buy TMNT stuff too, and I bought this pretty large lot of boxed and carded items (included many vehicles and playsets). He charged $70 to ship, which I KNEW it was cheaper, I said I would pay it to get the items, and I was going to fight it later. I receive the items with alot of memorabilia, which I don't collect, sure was a nice gesture, but I am not interested in it. Shipping was $35 cheaper!! I told him I expected a refund and he said the extra mem. crap was included in lieu of the overcharged shipping, I wasn't having that. So one of his items was opened when it should have been sealed a piece that I paid $61, plus a seperate shipping of $20 (this was bought RIGHT before the larger lot) again overcharged shipping. I wanted a refund on that, but before I could file a dispute he does....weird huh? I end up winning the claim, get back the $81 for the item, as he never responds back ebay never asks me to resend the toy. Finally after getting the refund he wants the toy back, I said give me the refund for shipping ($35+$9 to ship it back) and I will send it back, of course he doesn't respond, so I sell the toy and the memorabilia crap and take in $175 fo rthe toy and $37 for the mem crap...woohoo!! I don't know why it went up so high, I posted detailed pics that it was opened, but I guess it just got popular within that one month! ok I am done now! |

Are you familiar with shipping items? The size and weight factor? I ship hundreds of packages out, and i can tell you for a fact that a sky striker if well packed and insured would cost about $17 parcel post. Now, if he gets the box and it says $4 shipping on the postmark then we have a problem. But thats not going to happen. As for all your analogies, they are sad and pointless. Your making it out like said seller is a crook out to jack money and keeps contacting the seller asking for more money. The guy is new to ebay and probably has never shipped anything. Sad that he has to sell his joes as well. Not everyone is a crook man. People make mistakes. He thought he did the right thing by putting extra packaging in the box and insuring the item and telling the buyer about it. Does it suck you have to wait 4 extra days or so? sure, but is it really that big of a deal in your life that you have to get all worked up over? I dont think so. And it certainly doesnt deserve negative feedback. He without sin cast the first stone man. Im going to assume none of you have ever made a mistake before. |

I'm really starting to hate ebay. I have had sellers sell items to me with a Buy It Now and then say oh that is not the correct price it is this. Trying to scam more money from me. I bought a TerrorDrome and the guy was refusing to ship it for the amount he quoted to me. I did get it though he bought it a bus ticket and it arrived lol. Picking up the TerrorDrome at a bus stop in the bad part of Baton Rouge in the night is not fun. I've had other issues. It would seem that Ebay needs to tighten down on sellers and start revoking their accounts if they don't honor shipping and selling prices. My wife does a lot of Ebay business and in good faith honors all prices she quotes. Granted people think she is high on shipping but with the new rates and of course the new Ebay fees which are higher it's the cost of doing business.

It really boils down to this: I paid for a service which I did not receive. In this case it's a matter of Priority vs. Parcel Post. The seller clearly miscalculated the actual cost to ship to me using either shipping option. While that cost is unfortunate it bears no consequence to me as the buyer. I should receive a refund for the difference since I did not actually receive the service that I initially requested. I think a lot of folks here are becoming biased or jaded since this deals with eBay and the collecting of G.I. Joe figures. I *guarantee* that if this was happening in the real world with life-or-death instances (housing, medication, food, etc.) then many folks would change their tune and see my point regarding the simple error that was made by the seller. It's clear that there are plenty of folks who don't see my view on this matter and that's OK with me. It's not that big of a deal and I feel like some people in this thread really blew the issue up beyond where it should be. I still haven't heard back from the seller regarding my refund request so why don't we all just simmer down until there's a reason to get hot under the collar? I appreciate all the feedback and encourage polite, lively discussion about this and related matters. I will post an update here as soon as I know more.

I completely see your point, but as someone who has been on both sides, I think the seller behaved acceptably. The PO has changed their shipping calculations, making it much more difficult to predict what shipping will cost for Priority Mail. I am surprised it cost so much, but if you paid him $17 to ship and he shipped for $17 and you received the item, I'd say all's well that ends well.

You guys keep coming up with all these crazy analogies of the subject. "What if i need medication for a sick kid" or "a birthday gift that has to be here the day of the party" the dude made a mistake, your still getting your item, and he contacted you about it. But whatever. Leave him a negative and call him a crook scammer. Effing people are so critical. I hope you make an honest mistake someday and someone effs your face for it. "oh man i forgot to tell you that so and so called" "oh yeah well your fired!" lol just like that Last edited by HissCommander; 11-13-2008 at 10:35 AM.. |

I'm not going to bother actually quoting your words since you seem determined to swear in every post. I'm not a prude but come on with that F*** face analogy! :( Did you miss the part where I paid to receive Priority Mail? Did you also miss the part where I didn't receive Priority Mail? Again, that's pretty much as simple as I can make things.
