nice score, i would have gave the guy an extra 20. everytime i get offered a really good deal on something,i always pay more than asked. i guess i do it because i dont want to feel like im taking advantage of the person and maybe the person dont know how much the thing they're selling is really worth.

I recently paid more than that for a Skystriker that wasn't even that nice.
That whale is worth probably twice that. You got a great deal. The guy must have never heard of ebay. Amazing.

Lucky you!!
I'm absolutely jealous. In my country is impossible to find Gi Joe toys. I'm lucky if i find a single model without broken parts. And yes, Karma is strange... I'm moving to a new house, and looking thru all kind of personal crap i found a small box: my old yojoes! They're broken and dirty, so i decide to clean/repaint/save what i can. Later that day, just for the memories i make a quick googling, but no luck, none sells anything worthy (mostly, really ruined figures)...t'ill i found a local store, that is about to close and is selling everything at cost! That means classic and 25 anniversary figures at more or less 10-15 of your USD! I grab my money, and make the trip (is another City, so it was a long trip)...just to find an almost deserted store, the announcement was from a few months ago, so there's nothing left, except a 25 anniversary Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Crimson Gurad and Buzzsaw. I've bought them of course, and spent 1000 USd more in Star wars figures. Two days later, my brother arrives, he's been in Spain the last year, so he sees all the boxes i've been scathered around with my stuff. He quickly looks around, and smiling says "here, take these, i won't need them, you overgrown idiot"....to my dismay he gifted me their small collection, and they're oh so well kept. And he has has some figures i have too, so i can easily fix my own and use the rest for customising! A day later, when moving my stuff to the new house, i've crossed paths with an old friend of childhood. Helps me with the boxes, and sees the toys. "still with that crap??" "yes dammit! why?" "cos somewhere,i have a bag full of them if you want them" says he smiling. Yah, Karma is strange indeed. Best thing? I've received a few days ago a mail from the store. They're expecting a new cargo of stuff, and they will sell it at cost price. Can't wait! |

Dear Hisstank, I never thought it would happen to me...
So earlier in the week I answered an ad for "GI JOES, $30 takes all." I called the number and said I was interested and made an appointment to go and see what was there. I showed up not entirely sure what to expect. I followed the guy into the basement and he showed me what you see below: Vehicles: complete Skystriker (sans one parachute), a complete APC, Complete VAMP, 95% complete WHALE (I had the other pieces to complete it), a complete Polar Battle Bear, complete FANG, complete MOBAT, complete MANTA. Figures: all 100% complete (except Rip Cord who is missing his gun) and most near mint. Snake Eyes V1 straight arm, Major Bludd, Roadblcok V1, Flash 1.5, Glider pilot tan Grunt, Scarlet, Cutter, Tripwire, Recondo, Destro, Clutch, Gung-Ho (broken strap on gun), Stalker, Ace, Duke, Snow-Job, Steeler V1.5. There was also an incomplete Short Fuse and a myriad of extra weapons (mostly accessory pack). I could tell the guy was a little hesitant to give up his childhood toys even though he said he really needed to get rid of them to make space and he began telling me all about them as if he thought I didn't know anything about them. He told me a few of them had broken rubber bands ("did you know they had rubber bands?") I replied I did and that I am an avid collector of the vintage gi joes and began to tell him what I had planned for the Skystriker. He was amazed that I told him I was going to strip it of its decals, fully disassemble, wash and apply new stickers to it. He gave me his email and made me promise to send him pictures. He related to me how sad he was to pull his skystriker out of storage after a particularly hot summer had really messed up the decals. I told him I would likely do that with all the vehicles. He was very pleased to hear this--I think he just wanted them to find a good home. I asked him if he was sure about the $30 more than a few times and he finally told me, not to feel bad because he didn't, that he half expected a mom to show up and get them for her kids for Christmas and then take them home and the kids would just destroy them. I told him that I would take very good care of them. He helped me get them to the car, I paid him and I drove away. Tomorrow I will strip and clean the Skystriker, put the new stickers on and send him the pictures. As amazing as it is to obtain so much quality vintage stuff for an i amazing price, I think it feels better to me to know that I will be a good steward of this guy's childhood toys; that he felt they were going to a good home with me. Feels like a compliment. Anyway, for what it's worth: I love this hobby and the JOE community. More photos a few posts down. This is simply an awsome find! LUCKYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! I think I would've started crying. LoL. I mean this is an amazing find. The SkyStriker and WHALE are like the Holy Grail of Joe Vehicles besides the TerrorDome and the USS FLAG (IMO)and in excellent condition no less!!! I mean Christmas came early for you, Sir. Lucky man. It's cool that you will be sending pics to him. Maybe invite him over so that he can see your collection and the new additions that he sold to you. Of course after you clean and replace the stickers on them. Just a thought.
