Caught this "jewel" also:
"Footloose [v.4] is a physical fitness specialist for the G.I. JOE team. He makes sure the team is at the top of their strength and agility at all times. HIS COMBAT READINESS TRAINING IS NOTORIOUS FOR BEING THE MOST GRUELING AND DEMANDING REGIMEN EVER EXPERIENCED." [Caps mine] Uh, did Hasbro forget that Footloose is like the "Shaggy" / "Jeff Spicoli" of the G.I. JOE universe? Did he suddenly start channeling Beach Head? |

Just when you thought you discovered everything in the file cards:
Carl "Doc" Greer (v.2) 2010, in spite of being a pacifist, has a "preferred weapon": The "820 selective-fire, long-range fully automatic assault rifle!" I guess it's true what they say. Reality trumps ideology every time. Quote:

Concerning Barrel Roll. Any chance he came out of the 24th Special Tactics Squadron before joining G.I. JOE?

Of course, you can do what you want since his filecards don't really make sense. Hasbro wanted a hang gliding sniper and just threw a card together. You can make him PJ, CCT, TACP or SR and bump his rank up a bit, before becoming a Joe.

I think I have a use for Scoop besides filming the after effects of each mission for the Brass. Richard Marcinko created Red Cells / Red Teams to reveal security weaknesses in the military. He filmed all of it in order to show the base leaders where they were deficient. Enter Scoop for the JOEs (just like in the original Sunbow mini-series where the JOEs were volunteered to test General Flagg's security for his satellite).

Rank is kind of low for a Tier 1 operator. He was an enlisted pilot, when he joined the Joes. Not a Special Tactics job. The Club card made him a PJ, but that's a change that happened, after he became a Joe. It would be like Shipwreck being a member of DEVGRU.

I think Barrel Roll either needs to be an officer who is a pilot or an enlisted airman who is in one of the Special Tactics jobs. Not both. The only exception is if he has a civilian license to fly a plane. Same with Flint, either a Special Forces Warrant Officer (who has a civilian license to fly a helicopter) or an Army Helicopter Warrant Officer. Quote:

I am really having a hard time placing Scoop. Someone pointed out a while back that a special operations unit would not necessarily have a dedicated camera person, rather the operators would take pictures of what they need (or have cameras mounted on them while doing a raid). I maybe see him working with Psyche-Out working on propaganda type stuff to distribute to the enemy or something along those lines. I know some people use him in a communications role because of his microwave technician SMS though. |

I usually place Scoop with the DEF JOEs. It would make sense to have evidence of drug busts. The same would go for gun smuggling busts (Iron Grenadiers and Dreadnoks). Heck, he would probably be good for ECO-Force: help convince the Budget Committee to place some funds towards the environment. Moving pictures can be a jarring wake-up call if presented properly.

For those of you who have boat teams or teams modelled after Navy SWCC, what does your detachment look like? I'm also trying to figure out some qualifications such as Boat Crew Leader. I know that basic SWCC qualify as Chief Engineers, then Boat Captains, and E-7s go on to qualify as Patrol Officers, but I'm not sure where Boat Crew Leader fits in. The Boat Captain is responsible for the craft and crew and has weapons release authority, but there's little about the role of Boat Crew Leader. Anyone familiar with this SWCC qualification?
