That patch is a reproduction / homage of the patch on the original figure, which as far as I know was made up by Ron Rudat. I remember when the Sideshow figure came out, I was part of the discussion on it on the 1/6th Warriors board and that was the general consensus at the time.

Not uncommon actually. The USA and USMC will often give out a spot a jump school as a re-enlistment perk or bonus, assuming the guy is qualified to go. Steeler, as an officer, has a high likelihood of going to both jump and ranger school, the Army at least at one time believing that those two schools helped impart both knowledge and warrior spirit into their junior officers.

book recommendation to the group: The Operators, by James Rennie, about 14 Company in Nor'n Ireland in The Troubles, but useful for seeing possible roles in military intelligence/surveillance/undercover operations for the likes of Lady Jaye, Mace or Chuckles and Scarlett.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Operators-S...s%2C148&sr=8-1 So we have discussed a lot of everyone's Joe structures and focused a lot on their combat teams or Sabre Squadrons or whatever terminology one uses. I was wondering how everyone has their support teams/squadrons structured? I have a few support squadrons (some of them names I borrowed from Tyroc) and was wondering how their headquarter elements would be structured. Here are my support squadrons: Combat Support Squadron (military working dog handlers, CBRN, heavy breachers, EOD, fires support, and I am placing my firefighters, military police, and engineers in here. The last three being sort of a Airborne Redhorse kind of concept. Mission Support Squadron: Intelligence and psychological operations. May add an advanced force operations element in there (although it takes core Joe characters away from the Sabre Squadrons). Combat Service Support Squadron: medical, communications, training, R&D, and mechanics. Air Mobility Squadron: pilots (fixed and rotary wing) Maritime Mobility Squadron: boat crews and divers. I think I am placing Payload in charge of my Air Mobility Squadron and Keel-Haul in charge of my Maritime Mobility Squadron (if I can justify bringing him down to an O-5 that is). The Combat Support Squadron has so many different fields going on I am not sure who to make in charge of it (or how to round out the rest of the HQ element). Actually thinking about it I am in the same boat as with the Combat Service Support Squadron as well. Last edited by john shaft; 11-22-2019 at 09:41 AM.. |

yes I have read it. It's long on the training, short on the missions (probably classified still at time of writing) but it does cover some mission related shtuff, like how they plan out surveillance ops, how women are equally valued as operators since (stupidly) the bad guys don't think women are soldiers, how a couple together attracts less notice than a lone bloke, how a couple snogging on a doorstep could actually be picking the lock to gain entry... It's, as noted, late 1980s vintage, but some stuff never goes out of style.

Actually both. I have a list of Army MOS's and under them I have a list of Joes which could potentially be of that MOS. Obviously some Joes are listed under more than one (Grunt, Stalker, Ripcord) so ultimately I will drop some MOS's and finally settle on one for each Joe for storyline purposes. This list covers the modern era. Eventually I will have a more detailed USAF, USMC, and USN lists but for now am focusing on the Army since the majority of Joes come from that branch.
I would like to make the same list only for Vietnam-era MOS's. Eventually I would like to do some Vietnam era fanfics that tie in with the Joe's being formed in the early 80's. I would love to do some fanfics of Major Bludd during his mercenary days in Rhodesia and Libya. I also thought of him crossing paths with Joe Colton during this time, with Colton being involved in anti-terrorism during this time period (which would lead to the formation of the Joe team). Lots of storyline potential during these time periods with the Bush Wars (maybe Bludd crosses paths with Wild Weasel?). Although I am not typically a fan of stories where nearly everyone knows one another and has crossed paths in the past I think if done right it can be believable. I am going to avoid everyone and their dog crossing paths with Snake-Eyes. Last edited by Tanksmasher; 11-23-2019 at 01:22 AM.. |

I had the same thing in mind years ago when I started piecing together excerpts from the file cards and comics to create a series of short interconnected stories about the Joes that served in Vietnam. I wanted to write about Wild Bill's time as a LRP and his transition to becoming a helicopter pilot. I wanted to retell the story of the ambush that killed Escobedo, Saperstein and Collins (presumably). Of course, creating a realistic story based on the comics and file cards is a bit challenging. For instance, in what capacity did Duke serve after he enlisted? After Airborne School he opted for Special Language School, so did he become an interpreter? Did he go to intelligence school? In 1963 the Army Language School became known as the Defense Language Institute West Coast Branch at the Presidio of Monterey and there was a southwest branch in Fort Bliss, Texas. Although thousands took various courses in Vietnamese, I don't recall reading about any infantryman attending the school but could be wrong. So I'm guessing he served in some intelligence capacity before joining Special Forces in 1969. So at what point did he work in artillery? Was he a fire support specialist? If so, he may have served in the same unit as Hawk. Also, I struggled with whether Stalker was Special Forces or not. His green beret, I believe, was unintentional. If you look at the card art for Stalker, his beret is tiger striped, like his uniform, and during the Vietnam war, there were tiger striped berets that were unofficial head gear worn by LRPs.

Regarding berets, I see the JOEs like Delta: they wear what they want. It makes sense that Stalker would wear an unofficial green beret imho. |
