I've sort of thought of it that way since learning of the Bob Light-Larry Hama-Snake-Eyes connection, yeah.

Hmm...oh well. Maybe we can get Oliver to pose the question to Hama directly. Hama may still want to keep SE an enigma so we may have to slip the question in delicately:
"So, ah, Mr. Hama, [cough] is SE Bob Light? And where exactly was he born?" |

Hey Zulu, here's a link I found that mentions what you were talking about. The writer says that it was Bellomo's book that talks about Bob Light serving as the visual inspiration for SE.

What was so bad about that issue? The art? The depiction of ? The fact that he talks? My constant bugging you about it? ;)

Just the fact that they hooked SE and CC up at the beginning. The art wasn't that great. The writing was bad. It was painful.

Well, gentlemen. Here's our answer from Larry. I have to say, even if the man is vague and his answers are unsatisfying, he is quick.
"I was stretching a point, but not too much. SOG had Air Force, SEAL and Marine Recon personnel as well as SF. They also had a cherry-picking option for non SF with rare specialties (mostly linguistic) and it seemed logical that some LRRPS might qualify on acquired fieldcraft alone. We will never really know the full extent of some things due to a convenient fire at the records division at Ft. Leonard Wood in the early '70s."

Now, for my money - Larry's making the case that Snake-Eyes an exceptional LRRP and was thus recruited for MACV-SOG, but he's not saying Snake-Eyes is Special Forces. Then again, with the fire at Ft. Leonard Wood, who knows what Larry is really saying. Maybe Larry doesn't even know or want to make an answer. Maybe the real answer is that there is no answer. Snake-Eyes' real MOS is "Mysterious"... it's a literary device.
But you guys did a great job of trying to research all this while I was gone. Sorry you had to reread Declassified, Troynos. Wow. Tanksmasher owes you Big Time. ;)
